When bands completely change their sound, why don't they go by another name? That pretty much annoys me.

Morningrise and My Arms.... are indeed masterpieces. Watershed kicks ass too

Because it's still the same band...? Opeth is still Opeth. If you don't like it don't listen to it. Do what everyone does with Metallica and complain about how much better their earlier stuff was.

There's no need to change the band name.

Plenty of bands completely changed their sound decades ago, too. The Who, Sabbath (Ozzy to Dio), etc. and kept the name.

Yeah, it's annoying. How about we take it to the extreme and say Opeth becomes a boy-band similar to Backstreet Boys while still calling themselves Opeth.

Opeth Boys lol

A perfect example of completely changing their sound is All That Remains. For a metal core band I really liked their Fall of Ideals album along with a couple of songs off For We Are Many. Now with their new album they sound worse than Nickelback. It really irritates the hell out of me. I was hoping they were going to make a harder For We Are Many but instead went an completely opposite way. Its all just a bunch of auto tune BS now.

Good point-Ulver, Katatonia. If Peter Jackson can keep the title "The Hobbit" after completely rewriting the entire plotline, then I have no problem with Opeth turning into King Crimson

It may be different when they get AWFUL, but when they're still good with a different style I don't mind at all.

Heritage it still great, and I'm sure the new album will be too. I'm expecting something closer to Riverside's latest...which would be legit.

Katatonia is a fantastic example. I enjoyed their first 2 albums MUCH more than anything else they've released. However, I still listen to their new stuff because its pretty good too.

A couple of years ago I started listening to Converge and the various

projects Kurt Ballou produces. To me this is metal, some call it hardcore or metallic hardcore. Some may refer to it as "Entombcore", but I like this style a lot.

This is All Pigs Must Die, from their 2013 release-Nothing Violates This Nature.

Reminds me a little of Black Breath, although BB has more DM influence. Sort of a blend of Death, thrash and hardcore...

Anyway-All Pigs Must Die kicks serious arse

Got the Vsonic GR07 MK2 in. Funny how they reveal more to me than my Sennheiser HD600... Must be the intimacy of the soundstage or the in-your-head listening experience or something. Macro focus.

Thing I learned today: if you like black metal, you want a forgiving in-ear. biggrin.gif Even my RE0 sounds forgiving compared to the GR07.
