My ObZen is the only LP I own from those guys. 2X fluorescent orange. ObZen does not sound that great on the official vinyl release from the day? Maybe they will reissue it out better at a latter date. Not really that bad but not great for vinyl?

Now that you have Meshuggah on vinyl you can play it 20% slower, like a DJ.

They really are the experimental french disco of the metal genre.:p

It's like sludge death

One of the most beautiful records I've ever listened to. Might even be the most beautiful.
Can't wait for my limited art book edition to arrive!

I felt the same way about the last few Anathema albums. They don't do Doom anymore but what they do now is pretty darn good. I've never understood why people get upset when bands change. If you want the same album over and over, listen to Amon Amarth or AC/DC.

That said, I wouldn't mind if Opeth put out another Prog-Death epic masterpiece, but I can understand why they don't.

I was going to post that. I think this is the start of something new. When Meshuggah started getting attention and D-JENT became a genre many bands and albums emerged.

I think this is the rise of Ulcerate inspired metal. I am going to all this genre Ulcer Metal. Mark my words, my friends five years down the line people would be talking about Ulcer Metal. Buhaahahahahah!!!!

Since, I don't play any instruments, I would need your help in the propoganda part. Spread the word, Ulcer Metal across internet forums.

I was listening to it in bed yesterday and, even though I love the previous Alcest albums, I was a little bit underwhelmed. It's a very soothing and pleasant album though, with a few gorgeous crescendos. The problem seems to be, that now that Niege stopped incorporating metal in his sound, all he is left with is the shoegaze and there are a lot of shoegaze bands that are better at that genre than Alcest. My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Blueneck, Ride and M83 for instance. He instantly becomes more anonymous by leaving behind the one element that set him apart.

There were some production issues as well. Some heavy compression on lead guitar parts that distorted loudly, breaking the otherwise soft and gentle vibe of the album. Drums sound off to me as well.

Too illustrate my point, Alcest really sounds a bit like a French Ride now.

I guess that's true. I'm not that much into "normal" Shoegaze so it did not strike me as ordinary when I first listened to it.
To be honest, I would have prefered it, if they did more of this:

But I'm also okay with Shelter as it really seems to be their "next step".
The good old "Heritage Dilemma" :P

I was not aware of this but Opeth is planning to release a new album (Spring -2014). I am excited.

"Maybe a little bit heavier. Not death metal heavy, but hard rock/heavy metal heavy. There's also lots of progressive elements and acoustic guitars, but also more sinister-sounding riffs… but it will be an expensive album. There's a lot going on, lots of string arrangements that we haven't had in the past."

Hype!
Now I'm even more pumped for this than for Cynic and Ne Obliviscaris :D
....
Maybe.
Doesn't it sound like they are going to make a Steven Wilson album?

If they made an improved Heritage I would be all over it. Something like the mellower prog rock side of Ghost Reveries would be perfect. I don't need death metal heaviness from them, just somewhat consistent songwriting.
