Ooh Palms... I nearly picked that up based on the cover but it was expensive so I decided to read about it first, then forgot!  Your list goes from suff I like (Steven Wilson and Haken) to what looks to be pretty extreme screamy stuff.  Where does Palms fit in?  And that dinosaur shaped hill looks cool too!  I'll try to find them online later but have to do the big Christmas shop now.

p.s - you have a duplicate cover in there too :happy_face1:

No year list from me. I tend to only listen to the bands I'm working with at the moment. I did discover one (older) band that has really caught my heart.

It reminds me of Faith No More meets Dog Fashion Disco meets Borknagar meets Arcturus meets Diablo Swing Orchestra. What's not to utterly fall in love with? ;)

EDIT: And I should mention these guys as well. They made me realize there is some originality left in black / death metal still.

wz, I wanted to put BCI on my list so badly but its too damn short. These guys are so talented, I can't wait to hear their full length debut.

Gonna check out Palms. Thanks for the tip! (I love these lists)

EDIT: Palms, that is the guy from Deftones. Unfortunately, I am not a Deftones fan for whatever reason (I've tried and tried and tried, nothing).

Note, Mouth of the Architect is definitely on my list too. I have a few others I discovered. One of which is this:

Yeah, yeah, I don't know what it is. I think its progressive deathcore honestly, but there are hints of djent and black in there too.

Teaser for a new Marty Friedman album.

Frankly, I'm not exactly impressed. But then again, I don't like these Shredders that much at all, maybe except Paul Gilbert.

Alright, here's my top ten metal for the year. Tough choice this time around.

10. Sulphur Aeon - Swallowed by the Ocean's Tide

9. Deafheaven - Sunbather

8. Mouth of the Architect - Dawning

7. Anciients - Heart of Oak

6. An Autumn For Crippled Children - Try Not to Destroy Everything You Love

5. The Fall of Every Season - Amends

4. Persefone - Spiritual Migration

3. Ihsahn - Das Seelenbrechen

2. Witherscape - The Inheritance

1. Vangough - Between the Madness

I would have liked to include Plini but I don't quite consider it "metal". Here's my full list if anyone's curious: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/LunarCollapse/albums_of_2013/

sonos actually sounds pretty good.  the ONLY thing i don't like about their system is the proprietary transducers

i run a server all over the house using DLNA devices, i can play .flac anywhere and my room-sized music collection sits on some drives.  it was pretty hard to set up and still buggy but definitely works fine for the most part and is as audiophile as the transducers i'm using on the other end.

on another note, i'm home for the holidays so i'm really excited to see the lists coming out and make my own. great list Trogdor i agree with much of that.  great list of death bands Redcarmoose, some great stuff there too

THX!
Funny as I listened to em so much I'm actually sick of em. They were chosen as that was what I was listening to this year.

I haven't heard 1/2 of the stuff on these year end lists. I'm falling behind and I listen to metal almost all day!

OK-I need to check out the new Mouth of architect. I thought The Ties That Bind and Time and Withering were excellent. Never heard of Plini. Glad The Raven that Refused to Sing is getting some love.

Yeah I know I'm gonna transcode everything to alac. I put it all into wav because I was comparing to flac, I heard no difference at all. But I can tell the difference from lossless and 256 AAC (on most albums, mostly with pantera tho)
