I know the one from Sweden. I heard The Eerie Cold a while ago and really liked it, and I've been meaning to listen to their 2013 album before the end of the year. Don't think I've heard the one from Norway.

Exivious was all right for jazz metal.

Yeah, I wasn't into Exivious as much as Dave was for whatever reason. I mean it sounds good, but it didn't resonate with me. I am going to give it another shot though.

Gotchya. I think it was Shining form Norway that I've seen on some year end lists and sounded interesting.

I'm not sure what you define as weird, but I think I listen to a lot of weird bands.

Speaking of insomniphobia, I was just relistening to recently through my HE500s.. great album too.

My bad, wasn't following the conversation too closely. Yeah though, Sigh is a really unique band, but then again I don't know a lot of bands who are willing to expirement with their own sound to the extent that Sigh does. Also, I'm looking for new headphones, someone recommended the HE400's, are they good for metal?

I'd be interested to hear your opinion of Hubardo by KayoDot - here is a sample (but I honestly feel it deserves a full album listen:ohttp://kayodot.bandcamp.com/track/thief

It's about as weird/avant-garde as it gets haha!  Definitely was kind of a 'hidden gem' for me so to speak because while I've been a fan of Toby Driver's earlier releases from KayoDot and it's alter ego maudlin of the Well, the more recent stuff wasn't really that impressive so they weren't even on my radar until someone mentioned it here earlier this year.  I think it will go down as a classic.

Hey, thanks for the shout out. I'm listening to it now. Yeah-it's out there! Sound really interesting. I need to listen to the enire album.

My digitzed sound system including a stereo and headphone set up is routed though a Sonos Connect and speaker system. I can stream music from music services and internet radio, but they haven't added bandcamp yet. Hopefully they will soon. So, if I want to listen to bandcamp or youtube, I'm listening from stock crappy computer soundcard and speakers.

I have to force myself since the sound-uh-SUCKS! Kind of like going from a nice prime rib to a Big Mac.

One of these days, I should get a little dac/HP amp comboUSB device-a Dragonfly or something- for those times I want to listen to my computer-since my PC isn't my normal listening M.O.

But, from what I'm hearing-pretty cool....definitley get a kind of free jazz avant garde bizarro vibe. Would love to pop in a CD into my stereo and hear what it really sounds like:mad:

I like this kind of left of center stuff.

Interesting. It's a lot more atmospheric than the stuff I listen to but I kind of like it.

Here's one of my favorites (which happens to have a good amount of metal mixed in):

Whoa! Truth in advertising.

I listened to them tonight over speakers and some headphones. If I ever said Sigh was weird, these guys take weird to a new level. Sigh is about as pedestrian as Frank Sinatra after that listen.

This is a release that would take sometime to gigest.

I may have to pick this up. Alternately beautiful and challenging beyond belief. I hear blackened doom, post rock, Frank Zappa crazy prog, free jazz, beautiful parts, general insanity. Wow man.

For anyone else reading-this is so out of the box I can't even find the words.

You find some cool schiit.

I've listened to plenty avant-garde and experimental music, so its nothing that I found too out of the ordinary. The music itself is good though.

Anyway some death/thrash influenced by jazz and prog.

I've always found it hard to listen to free jazz, and honestly I don't even see the appeal of listening to out-of-key playing. I liked Exivious' first album because they didn't push that too far. Liminal is a bit harder to like.
