I think the Beatles remastered stuff which came out with a lot of hoopla a few years ago w/ a decent sound system is quite noticeably better...probably the most dramatic I've heard. Not come to Jesus better....but side by side-clearly better sound.

The MOST important aspect when comparing two masters is level matching. We will have an article about it soon!

Nice to see another Prince of Darkness fan here. Tony has made the best video game music arrangements that I've heard yet. This one is just genius:

From the category "albums you may have missed": Diapsiquir - A.N.T.I.

Because why not?

Definitely one of my favourite albums of 2011 if not of all time. Dunno if I have already talked about it here. If not, then I am. Because it's worth being talked about, yet I don't see anyone doing it (unless it has some fight-club-esque rules).

Seriously, if your usual Black Metal is an Norwegian forest, A.N.T.I. is one of the "bad parts" of your city, where you generally don't want to be, especially at night.

Is it Black Metal? Is it not? Whatever. It's one of those avant-garde albums that are an almost(?) schizophrenic combination of styles. But it flows well, it flows.

There isn't a "whole album" video on YouTube and it's 6 AM here (I guess it kinda shows in my post), so I'll just post the first few tracks and leave you with the work of findng the rest. Or you could just get the album itself.

Kinda makes me wish I knew French, lol.

Also, supposedly they will be releasing a new album next year! Wonder how fu.cked up it will be this time...

I'm really impressed by the melody and diversity on this one. A bit like Leprous, especially in the vocals.

Do you know of any bands that have a similar sound to this? It's so epic, I can't even imagine how good it would be with the proper vocalist.

I listened to Separation and I kinda like it. I'm going to check out the rest of the album.

I would actually prefer this one to be without vocals :3
I'm just a sucker for instrumental music.
And I sadly do not know any really similar bands. Only one that would come close is Galneryus:

These dudes went above and beyond with the solos in this song....

It's really good! After listening to the whole album I think it's safe to say that it's a must-listen, at least for fans of prog.

Yes, yes it is. ;) Here's my other favorite, which I don't think is on the album.

How can a song so dark make me so happy?

Want to check out something sophisticated, intelligent, well-written, nuanced, and meaningful in metal? Check out Years Past Matter by Krallice.

This is one of the best albums I've heard in years. It's so dense with intricacies, subtle details, and nuanced song writing. If you've felt alienated by metal because of its all too often bone-headed character, check this out. The arrangements are quite impressive, and it's nice to hear a bassist that really adds to the mix instead of just laying down a low-end so the album doesn't sound empty. The vocals aren't amazing, and at times I find the drums to be too "trashy" sounding, but the technical proficiency of the guitarists and bassist is something else. I generally find a lot of post/progressive metal to be long-winded, and a big pretentious, but this album is chalked full of meaningful expression.

It took me about five or six listens to get into it, but once it 'clicked' I have been astonished by the songwriting.
