Anyway,  Rhapsody had the first two you mentioned. I'm streaming now through my Sonos speakers as I ready for work. I like Ambient music overall. This is really interesting stuff. A little like weirder Sunn without the lowend if that makes any sense. Or Swans instrumental passages.....I think OM would be the most logical extension fromthis kind of music.  YOB is much  more "metal".

One think I found amusing, Rhapsody listed these acts as EDM and listed Daft Punk as a similar artists-not!! Very cinematic, the calm before the storm in a horror film or surreal planet with fog right before the beast unleashes from the depths....that's the kind of vibe I'm getting.

Yea, those artists I mentioned are definitely Ambient. Nothing Metal about them in their structure. Kammarheit and Northaunt are two of my favorite... so much space to explore in their music. It's definitely not EDM or related to Daft Punk, haha.

Anyway, if you're diggin' on Dark Ambient you should check out some of the other giants of the genre like Lustmord, Atrium Carceri, and Raison D'etre. They'll take you on a mysterious ride for sure.

It's probably listed under EDM because Ambient tends to be lumped in with Electronic music.

It's a BIG step down from LD, that's all I am really saying.

Since I doubt we will review it, the new Ulver album is incredible.

I agree. I have an extensive Electronic music collection, and I'm sure you do too. But Ambient definitely isn't "Electronic Dance Music," haha. I guess we're playing semantics here though.

Also check out Nordvargr for good dark ambient!

Yea, that's pretty damn creepy. Svartsinn, Psychomanteum, and Shrine are other artists to check out.

I asked the same question on the Electronic Music exchange thread but wanted some inputs:

Are there blogs for electronic music, like we have AngryMetalGuy, Metalbandcamp, NoCleanSinging etc for metal?

Cool. I'm new to the term Dark Ambient. I know I've seen "ambient" stations on music services like Rhapsody and Pandora (the only two I've used), but I haven't investigated them enough to know all the ins and outs. My guess is they don't classif as Dark Ambient...I'll have to play around with some searches.

This will help narrow down your searching:

Quite a few of the artists in that link aren't fully ambient, but just to give you an idea about the genre. The artists I mentioned in my previous post are some of the best in Dark Ambient.

Maybe this isn't the best way to put it, but it's the grooviest one. It flows so well I think. Definitely the most approachable of them...

Soup - 1000% agree. Though I *still* think Oracles maybe their best. But I admit it's close.

Why oh WHY does it have to sound like garbage? Can you imagine what this COULD have sounded like?

I can only dream of how amazing it could sound had it been recorded/mixed/mastered properly....
