It's just that I would really really like to see how they will go on from Watershed if they had not decided to stop making "real" metal (can't phrase it better right now).

+1 all day. Watershed was tremendous

Another Heritage-like album? Meh.

Awesome news... Woo Hoo

i just cannot connect in any way to heritage, i don't like it

but...opeth has more than earned the right to do as they please, just like metallica.  i'll definitely pick up the new album no matter what...who knows maybe by that time i'll have enjoyed at least part of heritage ;)

Mikael said it is going to be a bit harder ;)
Not metal-hard but hard rock-hard.

We should start a Spotify playlist with all our favorite metal albums/songs. It would be a fun way to discover new music and we could all subscribe to it and add whatever we find suitable.

This has be concerned too. I just don't want MA to devolve into poppy rock territory.

Be nice if Opeth pulled a Katatonia....that's what I'd like to see...

in fairness one probably gets tired of the same old thing, especially a musician / writer as talented as M.A.  maybe he wants to write top 40 pop alongside justin bieber LOL

but it doesn't mean i'll like it ;)

extremely unrelated, but my lita ford albums came in :)

love the 80's LOL

Plus she was kind of hot back in the day. I  believe she was in Joan Jet's Runaways once upon a time.

Any retro/stoner love out there? I still like to get my psychedelic 70's hard rock groove on.

Curious to get some feedback on any of the following bands with 2013 releases:

  • Spiritual Beggars (Michael Amott's 70's hard rock oriented side fetish)-Earth Blues
  • Mount Carmel-Real Women
  • Wolf People-Fain

Well, I raised as the normal Protestant church going middle-class youth. At 13 became totally counter culture and didn't really care about spirituality. In my 30s I became totally interested in everything I was not taught so far in school. I started reading. After close to 20 years of reading I still had a ton of questions. I studied the Western Occult Tradition, Masonry, The Golden Dawn System, Crowley. I read but maybe because I didn't practice anything or get involved with an order, it seemed self-centered. IMO.

Still later, I moved to an Island where Hindu was the standard believe system. It all started to completely make sense for me.

The energy of the world is broken up into a duality of life and destruction/ Black and White. Everyday we walk through it and have the same forces inside us. There are other spirit beings in other dimensions, they can be communicated with and affect us. The belief in reincarnation states that we keep being reborn into new lifetimes until we get to a higher evolutionary state, then we become one with God outside this dimension.

Yea, I always appreciated Hinduism. I particularly find Advaita incredibly interesting and liberating.

To weigh in on some older conversations:

Not a fan of Devin Townshend. There is just some thing about the production that doesn't sound right to me and the music just doesn't work for me. I don't think the music's bad, just not for me.

Hair length has always been shaggy, not long enough to start to flow, and not short enough to be short. If i were to grow it out I would imagine it would be like Brock Sampson's hair from The Venture Bros.

I see your post regarding the latest Kayo Dot kinda few under the radar (much like this band tends to haha), but this is one I was passively anticipating and it's good to finally hear something from it.  They are definitely hit or miss, even for a big fan like myself, but I really enjoy Choirs of the Eye and Coyote, and Hubardo is shaping up nicely so far...I think I'll pick it up.  Thanks for the reminder cool.gif
