So hype for the BluRay. Epicloud was an amazing album. I LOVED it...really emotionally charged metal. Grace is a favorite, too.

That first explosion if sound from Devin and the choir. Ugh.

Epicloud had its high points and low points. Can't say it's one of my favorites, but I bet it was amazing live. That choir part was probably my favorite part of the album.

You guys will think I'm an illiterate metal head, but I've never heard any of Devin's stuff-not even SYL.  Just a hole in my metalology if you will.

Would anyone recommend a single recording as the best place to start?

Yes. Accelerated Evolution will you get on the road nicely. Trust me. One word, two syllables: Deadhead.

Alien and City from SYL. If you can get in to a bit 'lighter' stuff compared to SYL his solo stuff is excellent, too.

I really encourage Epicloud, too...it's kind of love it or hate it, but it's kind of a one of a kind album.

And the pinnacle of Devins mad genius is Deconstruction.
At least for me.

I agree, but I don't think it's a good starting point.

Thanks fellas, I can see there is much love for Devin.

On, a separate note, I just bought Tesseract's Altered State thanks to comments on these metal lists.....after listening to it on Rhapsody on and off. At first, I thought it was kind of cheesy, but it really grew on me. I'm finding as I get better gear, I'm gravitating to better sounding metal (and non metal). Hence, my old Tool CDs have been getting a lot of play. I think Tesseract sounds great on my speaker system into the 4th song. No, not broootal...but, I'm mellowing in my old age. I like the complexity

Seriously (I still listen to plenty of exteme metal), this is a good sounding release. Lots of complexity. A little bit of a more accessible Meshugah vibe with a dude with some serious pipes-all clean vocals. For fans of this kind of style, Textures is a pretty cool band. Their release Dualism is one of my favorites from 2011. One of those hard to pin down genre jumping bands...mix of clean and metalcore (oh, that word!) vocals-I'm liking prog metal that makes me want to hit the repeat button rather than say, "well they certainly are talented.....but there's not much to grab onto". Definitely a rock vibe as well as metal with TesseracT. Moments remind me of 70's stuff like Yes.

Metallica_ Master of Puppets DCC Gold CD- Track 07 ORION

This is the ONLY Metallica song I still enjoy, a metal master piece as far as I am concerned! Listening to it for the first time on my $1000+ rig and it's better than I remember it :D

You can all hate me for evening mentioning this Song, but for a guy who got bored with metal after a year of it... being able to come BACK to this ONE metal song and still enjoy it... well it means a lot to me <3

My Modded w1000x are making this super enjoyable! Hearing many details I missed when I was uhh... 14 xD

I just realized I hadn't posted this yet...It makes me so sad that Art By Numbers lost their vocalist frown.gif They also lost their drummer, but that doesn't bother me nearly as much, he will be significantly easier to replace.
