Like the new Summoning as well.

Definitely, they were probably the first post metal band I listened to. Every one of their albums are really good.

Trying but can't for the life of me get in to Amon Amarth. And I type that as I listen to Coal Chamber, lol deal with it.

Long time fan here, ever since they released The Mantle.  It's still one of my favorites, and they never disappoint live...it's quite an experience really.

[...] end result is a roller-coaster read. In addition to going behind the scenes for the creation of such industrial-metal classics as The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste and Psalm 69, Jourgensen dishes dirt on many renowned names whom he's crossed paths with throughout his career, including Madonna, Courtney Love and Robert Plant. But perhaps the most colorful tale of all involves Fred Durst.

"The Limp-dic.kster motherfu.cker, whatever his name is. I got him naked and in a cowboy hat [in a recording studio]! I'm showing him, 'Look, you want my sound? This is my sound. This is what I use.' And he wouldn't believe it because just by hitting the magic button on the harmonizer that it wouldn't make him sound exactly like me. He was that naïve. I'm like, 'Well, try the cowboy hat.' So I gave him my cowboy hat. . . and it still sounded like sh.it. So I go, 'Why don't you try and get naked? That's how I sing.' I was just bulls.hitting him. So he goes out and does that, and is thoroughly embarrassed, again. And then he just left. I got paid to just humiliate him for three songs. It was awesome."

I should probably give it a shot. Has the new DT held up for you after repeated listens? I remember you defended the album when it first came out. I took a pass on that one as well....two of my most consistent melodic heavy bands confused.gif

The new DT record has enough meat in it to come back for maybe a few spins. It's a big step up from We Are The Void and in my book, that's a win. Is is Fiction, Character, or Damage Done? No.

I thought the review I wrote up was pretty darn fair. YMMV.

Well written review. Actually, I think I read it earlier in the year on your blog. I think I'll take your advice at the conclusion of your review. I'm not diehard. But, I do like their stuff.

Maybe I'm being unfair, but it's hard for me to buy so so music from bands that have put out genre defining classics. There's just too much new music out there. I have it on a Rhapsody playlist of new metal and that's good enough for me.

Trust me, I know how you feel.

Let me tell you something even more frustrating, you would think that receiving a plethora of promos every week would make my life cheaper. Actually, it has had the exact opposite effect. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, or well, cheaper! :-)

I read in a review of Ashes Against the Grain, that Agalloch were the best American black metal band and one of the best heavy metal bands playing. I bought that album and then went through their back catalogue.

The way I see it, Agalloch are to black metal what Opeth are to death metal. Both have sort of transcended those genres to something else. In my book, Agalloch are essential metal listening. I think they are in a class of their own.
