Speaking of Sigh and a bit off topic......I liked Sigh's 2012 release-Somniphobia-wierd and experimental, but pretty aewsome if you want something totally from left field-like a bizarre nightmare. If you haven't heard Sigh, reserach before you buy....it's hard to describe-but I'll try....black and deathish vocals/mostly black, NWOBHM 80 guitar sounds, movie soundtracks, carnavelesque sounds, proggy sensiblities with an almost cartoonish vibe. The first time  you hear it, you will think it's a joke, a satire. For all I know, it may be.

If you have heard Arcturus, Stolen Babies and the very awesome Unexpect, you're in the right ball park.

Genre title: uh.....Avante Garde Extreme Metal? Weird Schiit for metal heads!

Somewhat of an acquired taste....but I get bored with the traditional fare and need to mix it up.

I love this kind of stange metal:

I forgot which one of you are doing that Metal-Fi site... But I was cruising the net and clicked on a Riverside review by y'all, and the whole site is really well executed. Top-notch. Bravo.

Today I ripped the 5.1 DVDs of Blackwater Park and Still Life to stereo WAV files and I have to say....jesus tapdancing christ!
I did not expect it to sound so different! According to the Dynamic Range Database, that's a leap from DR6 to DR12 :)
Pretty impressive sounding, I have to say. Takes some time get used too though.
I think I'll kick the "normal" version from my harddrive ;)

Oh and then I did the same thing with the 5.1 DVD of BTBAMs The Great Misdirect....
Interesting, but overall it just sounds aweful :D
Objectively. The channels are just all over the place.

Oh, forgot something:

One of my alltime favourite bands....I really need a turntable.

Totally not metal related, but you guys might find this fun...

Someone in my city (don't know them) is trying to sell me 1700 CD's for $50! The seller has NO idea what they are, what shape they are in etc. just has a bunch of packing boxes full of cd's from an estate thing. I've left them an emphatic yes message, just waiting for a response. I could have every album...I could have none...it's very exciting LOL although I somehow doubt anything more metal than the black album will be there...

You never know!  I'd totally do that, just out of pure curiosity.  Plus, I have a friend that has a record/tape/cd trade store so most of them would just end up there or in the trash haha!  Let us know if anything interesting or rare comes out of it biggrin.gif

Eh, do it. Probably all classical and old-thyme doo-wop compilations but what the hell?

Soulfallen - Blackened symphonic death metal with a little bit of doom sprinkled in. \m/

Yeah ferday, what modulor says is true. Worst case scenario: Trade them in, buy some metal! :-)

I listen to them once in a while I wonder at times though if maybe their back catalogue didn't age as well as other extreme bands from the time. I think Morbid Angel aged better.

I will be excited to hear what they are up to. Their last two albums were really different I guess because they had nowhere else to go but slow down. Maybe they burned out a little. They were like the fastest and most technical grinders.

There is just so much great metal coming out this year. I think it's going to be hard even for legends like Carcass to rise above as the scale is so much higher now.

Carcass's last albums didn't have a repeated playability for me anyway. I loved em at first but then they actually became simplistic. Take this years Deads Of Flesh, Immolation or Suffcation releases and play em everyday. They are so complex and detailed that you can never figure em out or get tired of em.

They truly were something!

I traded tapes with Bill Steer back in the days when he wrote Phoenix Militia, so I followed Carcass pretty closely. The first 2 albums came out in a period that was awesome for extreme metal (and hardcore punk), so for anything to stand out, it had to be special. "Reek..." wasn't special enough - it was good, but not great.

"Symphonies..." however was mind blowing. Amazing tunes, well produced (!) and totally original. No-one sounded like Carcass, although many then tried to!

I also saw them live several times (live, they were honestly variable - especially before Mike Amott joined - but on a good day, with a good sound system, they positively slayed)
