I love the "Bloated bass of ny 5K's I hope it isn't too gone in the 7k's i just ordered. If I read your signature correctly WOOFY, yout running them off a Headroom ss amp.I have a Total Airhead and I have a Head-Direct EF-1 on order so perhaps a hybrid can bring out the "Love" hidng in the 7k's. I paid 420.00 for the 5's and 570.00 for the 7's so at only 130.00 difference. they won't disappoint.

Wow...how did you get yours that cheap? I got mine through AAFES with a discount coupon and still paid $700.

I hope so too. I'm not all that thrilled with 'em right now.

D7k is certainly by far the best headphone I have ever heard~(Source: Duet) never tried D5k, but I am definitely not a bass head, and I only need the bass to be accurate and smooth.

heh, yeah, another person getting them dirt cheap. $600, wow.

It's accurate and smooth alright. Just maybe a little too smooth (for me).

Interesting that you say maybe a little too smooth.I can't imagine any can smoother than the Denons. I guess that's where personal preference comes in. I found the Grado GS1k's very rough where most find them anything but.

Anyway I found the Denon 5k's at an obscure site on an Alta Vista search that did not show up a Google search.Soory, I Can't remember where

I guess you are a basshead~lol~Denon's bass is actually their trade mark~but D7K doesn't have the boomy bass like ultrasones~ its more like a headphone for symphony than for hiphop~

Not basshead, but I just like a little emphasis. Most of the bass cans also have that irritatingly harsh high-end that I can't stand.

I just ordered a pair off of J&R Music, even though they are temporarily out of stock. If they don't cancel my order, they should arrive whenever they get a pair in.

From everything I have read the headband structure/size is identical in both - pity, otherwise I would have been all over the D7K (D5K was too large for my head)

I wouldn't take that "deconstruction" too seriously. The site owner stands to lose a lot of business if he prefers an unmodded D7000 over a modded D5000. There are a heck of a lot more D5000 owners than D7000.

It very well could be an unbiased comparison...but I seriously doubt it.

Neither would I. He seems to be the only person that claims to prefer his modded creation to the R10.

I would take all of Mr. Lawton's impressions with a couple grains of salt.

The D7000 is too new and at a different price level from the D5000. That's the only reason the D5000 has more owners at the moment.

I do not think you are being very objective let alone fair. The mods that Mark sells are not proprietary. He wrote a very lengthy post with plenty of pictures to show all of us how to go about implementing the mods. Perhaps you should get one of each and post your impressions.
