Is my K701 fake? :(

Hi.

I bought a pair of brand new K701 headphones from the internet (a US ebay seller) and after I opened the box I noticed that the headphones look a little different from the pictures on its box (and the ones on AKG website). First of all, the biggest difference I noticed was the AKG logos in the rings on both sides of headphones and the stand. Unlike the "Real ones", the logo is missing the "three ring-alike shapes", and only says AKG in capital. Please refer to the pictures as it's very hard to explain in words. Second of all, the problematic AKG ring seems to be a little bigger than the ones from pictures.

I am wondering if these were fake or it's just that there have been slight changes for this model. My serial number is 32108. By the way, I am living in Canada and bought these from a seller in the United States

Thanks is advance.

This is indeed very weird, mine looks absolutely different, and I can't imagine that AKG would suddenly change their main logo!?? You should definetly contact the seller!

yes ,you should contact seller immediately and contact AKG as well ,bu giving them serial number and pictures via email .

Well,If they are fake, then its time for all of us to get worried as it may be a start of fake high ends .

Apart from the odd logo, nothing about them appears to be fake.

Contact AKG in any case, but I highly doubt it. The attention to detail on the rest of them looks perfect to me, so it seems like a strange choice for the forgers to incorrectly copy the logo.

I checked the official AKG site and the pictures up there are different from yours. How do they sound anyway? Have you heard another K701 before?

One more reason to only buy new if you can help it. When I get a K701, it'll be from Amazon @ $242.

Nothing about them looks fake to me.

That dude// No. These are my first pair of K701, and I don't know how they would sound as I haven't listened to them with decent amp yet. Without amp, they sound OK.

It's a brand new, by the way. The funny thing is they shipped this very weird thing in a "Genuine box". The picture in the box is identical to the ones on AKG website.

I wouldn't be too worried, minsei. If they're brand new, they may very well have retooled the logo. These are complicated things to fake, and it is not sensible to only fake part of it.

Chinese normally clone popular headphones for example, the Bose IE's.

Thats a good point, it would be a hell of a scheme to actually make fake K701's, not very likely

There's a chinese "K-801" that's also been labeled "K-1001", but it's a hilariously implausible design.

I've added more pictures just to be sure.

I wouldn't worry. I have a pair (serial #27000) that look exactly like yours. I read that AKG had changed their logo and were no longer using the rings, so it may be that the newer production phones just have the letters AKG. Anyway. enjoy your phones!
