Whale Rider

Just saw the movie Whale Rider tonight. Thought it was great. Nothing over the top, just enjoyable. I really enjoyed the music. I was listening through the soundtrack at amazon and it is all music by lisa gerrard with some of the Maori chants and songs mixed within. However, I was looking for some of the performances from the movie in particular; the first school lesson with the young girl and her grandmother singing (I thought it was amazing, got chills), also the scene with the grandfather sitting alone outside "crying out to the ancestors." Maybe they're mixed in the soundtrack somewhere, I'll have to look. Anyone that is considering going to the movie, I would recommend it, and you should check out the soundtrack as well.

Seconded, my wife got me to go along and I didn't think I would like it but I did.

It's good to see a film every once in awhile instead of a movie. I hear "Dirty Pretty Things" is good too. Audrey Tautou (Amelie) is in it.

I liked Whale Rider, but it's not the kind of movie I need to see more than once. The music was good.

Dirty Pretty Things and Northfork are the best movies I've seen lately.

I forgot about Northfork. That's the one that has James Woods in it right?

I like it. I just have one little gripe. On both my pcdp and Dvd player there are clear distinct breaks between some of the tracks that musically go into each other. It's like someone hits the next track button. Irritating.

Same observation.....

archosman,

Same here, in my copy they are present as well. In fact, I listened to the CD for the second time last night. Coincidentally, I also used the same general type of sources for the two listening sessions: a full size CD player and a PCDP. The aberrant passages were the same in each case. SO it is very likely to be the CD.

i havent had the chance to hear the soundtrack but from the movie it seems like it would be good.

I didnt think the movie was good tho. the plot and dialogue was too predictable thus boring.. could be better...
