kaushama, how long u burning in that little guy? The bass and high should come out nicely by 200 hours from what i read.
For almost 30++? hours. I am using the burning tone sequence in stereophile Test CD3 (Flac) and driving it with my DA100>GS-1 at fairly moderate volume.

Thanks much for a very informative and insightful review. You pretty much confirmed my suspicion. Well, at the least this thread has put to rest my desire to purchase customs (i.e. UE10pro, UE11...), if only I could say the same for the HD800!! (the new object of my desire!)

To David: if you had to absolutely choose 1 IEM, which IEM would it be and why?

how is it posible that you get something with better SQ for half the price? [UE-10 vs. W3]???

and the comfort porblem is almost only yours...

BTW, great review!

Why not put a total score for the IEM since you wrote the score for each category?? :P

(since there are 20 categories, i might calculate wrongly)
From some of yur reviews:
UE 10 PRO: 167/200
Shure SE530: 162/200
Westone 3: 174/200
Sennheiser IE8: 185/200
Probably because it would be somewhat misleading. Notice how the poster preferred the Westone 3's overall for SQ at the moment, yet their overall score is lower than the IE8's.

One major lesson that needs to be learned, especially with audio gear is that Higher price does not always mean better quality... I eventually learned that and my wallet is ever thankful for it!

Excellent reviews, across the board. And it sort of saves me from wanting to buy and try the IE8s. Not that I wouldn't like to hear them out of curiosity, but since I already very much like the W3s, no reason to move sideways in my view. Soundstage and imaging also not a priority for me, so the W3s are the end game for high-priced IEM purchases ... at least for the next couple of years. Having said that, I did order a pair of new Phonak Audeos for $94 on Amazon two days ago. Curiosity got the best of me. But for under $100, not as much a financial deal.

Fine review, Dave. This one went directly to Yojimbo for later reference.

It seems to me that for anyone owning one of the top three models there is really no true "upgrade" path other than possibly custom tips, etc. I was considering adding an IE8 to my horde, but since I'm so content with the amazing W3 there doesn't seem to be much point. I think I'll just wait for the next jump in design. W4, SE630 or IE9 anyone?

Had been anticipating the impressions, thank you

I would have left out the numbers though Not sure just how much this thread answers my questions though

No IEM I have heard can match a balanced HD600 either, except someday I hope to try the UE11Pro someday and see if it can meet that goal.

EDIT - UE11Pro are on hold again, ordered the HE Audio JADE electrostatics on the 31st, and just pre-ordered the HD800 tonight... I'm happy as all get out with the Westone 3 anyways...
