"Controversy erupted inside the cage between the first and second rounds when the NSAC was alerted to the inappropriate use of Vaseline by St. Pierre cornerman Phil Nurse. Officials wiped the welterweight champion down with a towel between rounds and monitored the corner closely until the bouts halt."
" The document cites unnamed mixed martial arts fighters who complained about St. Pierres use of greasing agents as evidence of his culpability."
The above is quoted from the linked article.
Point 1: If officials were "alerted" between the 1st and 2nd round, I don't see how it could have affected the outcome of the fight. The officials wiped St Pierre off and were obviously watching from early on.
Point 2: I always thought there was something weird about Sean Sherk getting busted for steroid use and Penn quickly slipping right in. I often suspected Penn may have had snitches out there that ratted Sherk out. It looks like I may have been correct since said "unnamed" snitches are trying to ruin St Pierre now.
WOW...I'll say it again. Penn QUIT. If the fight was really down to a little vaseline then the fight should have gone the distance and been very close. It was not. I have now lost what little remaining respect I had for Penn.
