The MMA thread (Affliction, UFC, DREAM, Strikeforce, etc.) - Page 15

The Kimbo fight was awesome, I can't wait to see him fight again! Houstons evasive maneuvers were a bit tiring but he did it to wear Kimbo down and break his game plan. People want to see Kimbo fight and I can understand why the UFC set him up a match despite him loosing to Big Country. What I would like to see from Kimbo is better foot control and superman punches, which from there he can unleash into the beast he is!

As far as Big Country winning I saw it from the start, why why why does TUF allow professionals in the house with the rest of the amateurs, it makes no sense and is pretty dangerous if you ask me. Big Country has beat Frank Mir before and he's fighting no names... I don't understand that and don't want to see it in the next one.

Really looking forward to 107... my predictions are...
Penn vs Sanchez
Mir vs Kongo
Fitch vs Pierce
Florian vs Guida

The Kimbo fight was absolutely pathetic. I thought i was watching UFC 1. lol. I'm glad to see him putting the effort in at ATT though, but he really has no business being in the premier promotion of the sport. I guess I don't have any trouble having him in the UFC, but it would be disappointing to see him take up a main card slot from more deserving fighters.

This season's TUF is incredible. It was already the best I've seen after the pilot and it's continuing to deliver after two more episodes.

Pilot episode featured 8 knockouts, 5 submissions and 3 decisions. Only one fight seemed weak for me. All other were ace. A few gifs:

Dana White seemed really (genuinely) impressed.

In other news: Chael Sonnen - Anderson Silva rematch is going to be intense.

I watch the big UFC fights.

I'll have to check into this TUF stuff, no idea what it is.

Edit, duh, the ultimate fighter.  Yeah I haven't seen a single one yet.

UFC 136 was yesterday. Chael Sonnen and Frankie Edgar were both really impressive.

Frankie has to have the toughest chin in the UFC ever.

UFC 136 had some great matchups. I haven't watched the whole thing yet but saw the Frankie / Maynard fight. I don't know about the toughest chin but he does fight with a big heart. I think Maynard is the better fighter and if the fight kept on without rounds Maynard probably would have won. But Frankie has better stamina and he never slows down.

I have to agree, how heart and will carried him through that rough start in both fights.  The best chin would have to go to Big Nog.  But he's past his prime and having the best chin isn't something that lasts forever.  Frankie trains hard and its hard to KO someone with very good cardio.  Maynard is stronger but strength just depletes stamina faster.  Edger doesn't seem to have a lot of power in his hands but knows when to use it.  He peppers away to get shots in and gets back out.  Smart when fighting a hat hitter like Maynard.  All in all an exciting fight!  I still have yet to watch the Sonnen fight.

Hah, I used to bit-torrent every UFC until Zuffa sent a cease-and-desist to my ISP who passed it on to me along with their boiler-plate policy.  The UFC guys have an excellent ground-game, but their stand-up is rather boring.  They obviously train with standard boxing gloves so they have a habit of using circular punches which opens their defence when wearing MMA gloves. And one guy usually steps back when the other steps forward.  Attack is opportunity to defeat the attacker.  Never step back unless your arms are pinned.

But the mobs want blood so the guys who get beat-up while winning get the contracts.

I recently watched a Bellator event.  It was Ben xxx (I forget his name) but he had very creative JuJitsu. I was impressed and entertained.

You guys know that Anderson Silva purposely let that fight go 5 rounds right? Chael Sonnen made a comment about how the Noguira jiujitsu sucked, so he purposedly didn't fight back and tired him out til the last minute to submit him.

Anyone see the Nam Phan vs. Leonard Garcia fight? That was a pretty awesome fight. Reminded me of the Griffin vs.Bonnar fight.

It's the truth. There's a video of him explaining the fight somewhere. If you watch the fight, you notice him not really fighting back at all, just keeping his distance and letting Sonnen go after him. His goal for that fight was to not knock him out but to submit him for the win. You see several armbar attempts but finally gets that triangle at the end.

What Chael did good at in that fight was not letting Anderson find his range though. Must guys are too afraid to engage from the get go and that gives Silva time to figure out the timing and range down.
