Spotify - does anyone use it?

Hi, i recently started using a really cool program called Spotify basically it allows you to listen to music albums in full over the internet. The best part though, is that you can create a playlist and share it will a friend. Both you and your friend can add to the playlist and recommend music for each other.

I think this is great for sharing with mate and would be even better on a forum like this. Just think we could set up playlists and share them with each other and everyone could add to it.

Heres the site:

Spotify – A world of music. Instant, simple and free

Only one problem, and that is you have to be invited on to the site. You get a limited amount of invites each day so people would have to invite their friends to join.

Sounds interesting indeed!
Could not find any information about the audio stream though. Lossy or lossless, which codec, bitrate, ...

I don't think its anything better than mp3. It streams over the net soit wont be anything like lossless. To big files sizes.

However saying that, when played via my optical out in to my buffalo dac and in my b22 and other valve amps,it sounds pretty good.

Don't get me wrong a cd/vinyl is going to be better, but its a cool program tat enables you to share recommendations and you can get pretty much anything on there to listen to before you buy.

Sounds a bit like last.fm, although last.fm only allows you to listen to any songs in your scrobbled/played library that have samples or full tracks... Some only have samples.

the thing with spotify is you can listen to full albums and share playlists. I don think last fm can do that. They're both good programs but are different. I use both

I like to use Lala.com to preview music before I buy. It lets you preview songs and albums in their entirety one time. After that, it has the standard 30 second clips. But for around a $1.00 per album, you can buy the online version and preview an album as much as you like. It helps me decide if I want to drop $10-15 for a CD or not.

This is where spotify is useful as it lets you listen to full entire tracks and album albums for free. If you want to buy them you can do it also.

I just use it for free though. :0)

Just received an invite and playing Britney's latest album. Erm yeah

Good quality and no problems streaming so far though I am running a 10 Meg line anyway

Supports last.fm so that's still getting updated

Will need to explore more though I see the music is mostly western orientated (expected), which may or may not improve through any expansion beyond the UK

I could use Pandora quite easily within the UK, has it been changed recently?
