What is the lifespan of an output MOSFET?

Can a MOSFET last 200 years if you don't stress them too much?

You building a time machine? JK

I have found MOSFETS to be robust as long as proper ESD procedures are followed.

I followed proper ESD but my MOSFETs died after 10 months after running them hot.

Too much heat will shorten the life of any semiconductor device. MOSFETs are very reliable if not abused, but are not immune to damage if not operated within safe margins.

Not sure if this is a DIY project or not but Rod Elliot has a great article on choosing the proper heatsink. ESP - Heatsink design and transistor mounting

Sorry for opening old thread.

I have mosfet headphone amp in class A with IRF510 and I use it every day with my PC for listening music and gaming. Current on every mosfet is set to 333mA. Temperature is around 50°C and I have quite big heatsinks. But I think that temperatures inside mosfets are even higher. I've been using this amp for more than 2 years now and everything is fine. And I do hope that it will last long enough.

But I have two mosfets inside my amp ready for replacement. Just in case.

As long as they are not abused MOSFETs can last almost forever.  I have 30+ year old Hafler power amps with MOSFET output stages that still work great today.
