I just tried it...it's still valid.  Nice tube for the money.

Wow! When it comes to tube info you move at the speed of an electron!

 

Any other advice on the various tube selection I'm looking for?

12AT7's generally are not too expensive. I like Sylvania black plates.

 

12AX7's and 6L6's tend to cost.  You might be best off with reissue Russian Tung Sol branded 6L6's if you aren't willing to buy original US NOS Tung Sols.  12AX7, you can usually get NOS Sylvania 12AX7As for a halfway decent price, and they sound pretty good.  Thee are better, but they can cost a lot.

How are the reissued Tung-Sols?  OK quality or have they simply re used the name?

Depends on the tube.  They are current production Russian made.  They bear zero resemblance to the original Tung Sols, but some are supposed to be decent.  The 6SN7 they make sucks though.  I'm not really a fan of any new production tube, myself.  I like to use tubes from back when they really knew how to make them.
