Does anyone care to explain to me what qualities to look for in jeans that tell them apart? They all look basically the same to me, for men anyway. I've been rocking $30 Old Navy jeans for years and have never felt the need to buy $70-90 pairs.

Material and build quality, perhaps. Not to mention the cut, feel and fit, which is a major factor for me when buying jeans. Blnts and AE (never had Old Navy jeans, so no comment) for example are very rough, bad stitching jobs (from the ones I owned), and aren't all that well fitted in my opinion. I've never had a pair of jeans from those places last over 6 months before ripping up, de-threading, or fraying beyond belief.

On the other hand, I've had a pair of Analog jeans for 4 years (keep in mind I'm fairly young), and aside from very minor fraying on the bottom, they're in *great* shape still.

I find the $8US generic/house brand jean i favour quite cool, because the fabric used is thinner than in normal jeans.

Levi's 501s will never go out of style. I also like Levi's Capital E line of premium jeans. I think Citizens for Humanity and 7 for all mankind have a good fit, but they are too expensive at MSRP. I can usually pick them up at Norstrom Rack or Neiman Marcus Last Call.

APC has arguably the coolest jeans in the world, but they are waaaay too skinny for me!

Japanese denim ranks top for me. They can cost as much as a pair of good headphones. Pick your 'collection'

I went through a few brands before I found Levi's Capital E jeans. They are well made and comfortable to wear. I thought they were expensive but I have forgotten about their prices.
