Musical Fidelity V-DAC Owners? - Page 17

Would it be possible to try with for example laptop charger with 12V output voltage? I mean is it safe to connect charger with more than v-dacs input current (v-dac takes 0.5A and charger is 2.5A)? must have fallen asleep in electronics class..

Stop stealing my question

Scaling up amperes is safe, the device will only use what it needs.

That's what I thought. Because reading the comments about PSUs, it seems the "cellphone chargers" are not giving enough juice to the DACs. Is there any other differences in PSUs? like better quality current or more stable output otherwise? It seems a bit strange to pay $200 on PSU for $200 DAC..

As my postcount says, I am I also work in a company that uses lots of equipment with external power supplies, therefore I am tempted to try. And paying $200 for something that is available for free (at least to try) seems obviously dumb for me. Not implying that all the rest of you are dumb

If the KingRex PSU is anything to go by

I doubt a laptop power supply would be as large a step up (though I'm certainly willing to try).

I wasn't talking about only laptop powers, we also have networking equipment PSUs which have much more juice than the "mere" Kingrex PSU

You don't happen to live in the UK and be open for a little business, do you?

This is a message for ADD,

I noticed you have a pcm-d50 linear audio recorder which I also have, absolutely love, and and regularly use to record myself (violin). I just realized the other day that it (d50) has a handy little optical out. So, I used a toslink cable to connect it to the VDAC. I have to say that the sound is really incredible through the VDAC...really brings out the overtones in the violin- so far just recording 48khz 16bit using SuperBitMapping. Anyway, just thought you might want to know.

Unfortunately I live in Finland. And I am quite sure the company would not appreciate me selling expensive PSUs as Hi-Fi equipment

Well in these economical bad times, maybe your company will sell direct to hifi enthousiasts.

But the mark up prices on audio gear are insane

Oh well, I'll save for that new MF PSU..

I received the V-DAC today and the difference through speakers compared to my M-Audio Delta 44 sound card is profound.. I used to think these speakers were poor, but they're actually very enjoyable to listen to now. I'm intrigued to hear how the burn in will improve the sound which is already refined.
