Denon AH-D1001 w/ iPod?

I'm thinking about buying this pair for portable and home use. I know they would sound better with an amp, but would they work well with just an iPod and regular macbook?
they should, the impedance on these cans aren't high so the sound should be perfectly fine.

however, try picking up a set of fiio amps, the E3 sells for 8 bucks on dealextreme and the E5 sells for 20 bucks. imo it's a steal and it's not much of a dent in your wallet.

How bout Sony MDR-V6? How are they for iPod?
i wouldn't recommend the Sony's. They sound excellent, but best out of an amp. I own both and HIGHLY recommend the D1001's. $80 from buy.com (as you said in your other post) is exactly what i got mine for like 3 months ago, and they came very quickly. First thing i did was burn them in for like 40 hours and i love them.

I listen some rap (Eminem, 2pac, NWA, wu-tang) and these are sweet for that. Deep, deep bass and no piercing highs.

The Denon's are great all around though, and absolutely don't need an amp. However if you want more bass or anything I recommend the FiiO amp.

How's the comfort and portability?
this is without a doubt the most comfortable phone i've ever tried on. its one of the smaller around-the-ear types out there. the "pleather" ear pads are very comfy, and i've never had ear fatigue. The headband is nicely padded too.

they are suprisingly portable too. the earcup size is smaller than most circumaural out there. i have no problem bringing it around in my backpack. its also great for libraries b/c it leaks almost no sound.

X2

(Although I don't use them as my portable phones)

Although I have read that the Fiio E3 and D1001 were not considered a good match by some, this is the first recommendation that I recall reading in favor of this combo.

It's probably better than no amp though, considering they don't want to spend too much, if anything, on an amp.

That's not what I'm guessing. FWIR, it seems more likely the D1001 would be preferred without a Fiio E3 than with.

The more I research, the less I'm sure. I've read that the Audio Technica ATH-M50 is a great pair of cans. For portable use of an iPod, what do you think Audio Technica ATH-M50 vs. Denon D1001K?
The Denon 1001's sound fine with an IPOD. They do sound better with an amp. The 1001's are very light weight and make nice travel phones. I really enjoy them.

Here is what Headroom has to say about the D1001 used with an ipod, quoted below:

"depending on your audio source, there's a chance the D-1001 may not be revealing its full sonic potential especially if used with weak-amped mobile audio devices like Mp3 players or iPods."

I'm sure the same could be said of the M50 and similar headphones.

Not everyone would consider the D1001 or M50 adequate or enjoyable from an ipod. The ES7 is another you may want to consider. Many headphones improve quite noticeably with an appropriate amp.

i 2nd because i tried that combo..the mids get more recessed and Bass is overdone.

u mite wanna check some other amps but fiio.

D1001 sounds much tighter and controlled with an amp on ipod...i ran it with iBasso D2 Boa.

how about dt860?

i do not think it is useful for ipod to use amp

so, just a 32 om headphone will be ok

ipod can not give you a good quality
