Where do you use your full size headphones?

Hi, I've been on head-fi a while now, although I haven't really been posting alot until recently.

I've always been interested in the portable/IEM section, and prior to that section existing (when full sized headphones and portables were in the same section) I only really paid attention to IEM threads.

For that reason, my knowledge of full sized cans is limited compared to IEM's

I'm curious as to where you full sized cans lot actually use them. You don't all sit on the bus wearing sennheiser 650's and AKG K701's etc do you?

If not, do you just use them at home rather than a speaker set up due to cost issues, or do you just generally prefer the sound of a high end set of cans compared to speakers?

I know this will be different for everyone, but I just want to clear a few things up.

Thanks for any replies.

I m using full sized headphones at home only, I did try to switch to speakers but my neighbors weren't very happy so I had to go back to headphones.
For outdoor I use only iem now but If i could without looking really weird Id rather use full size headphones since I really much prefer their sound over my iem.

I don't have any good headphones atm, but when I do, it'll stay in my room next to my computer and piano. I enjoy listening to music and playing it on the piano, or sequencing it on a music software. So portability is not a concern for me. I also prefer headphones over speakers since I can isolate outside noise when monitoring music.

I use my DT770/250 when flying and when waiting for my son at Chess Tournaments to block out background noise, my Grado 325i in the office and both HP's when at home.

DT770/250 - Closed for noise blocking
Grado 325i - Open for ability to listening and converse with people while at work.

At home only!
My full size headphones (see signature) are simply to unpractical to wear elsewhere. Since they are rather large, require a bulky amplifier and battery. And I would look like a fool.

So, at home it is.

I use my HD 280's at home and on campus. Most people couldn't care less what you look like when you walk down the street with headphones on your head. And if it sounds great and you're enjoying your music through those cans, then wear them proudly, don't let other people's opinion of you stop you from enjoying your music to its fullest extent. Not to mention most of the people you walk past on the street you will most likely never see them again in your life, so what's it matter if they think it looks goofy or not?

Wherever i want.

Obviously the floats wouldn't be of much use on an airplane, but I'm not shy about where i bring them out. home, work, whatever.

So people are using them at home to block outside noise and keep the neighbours happy?
Anyone else?

Anywhere I want.

I use my full-size at my desk. My IEMs anywhere else.

I'm trying to get ESW10jpns for portability over my IEMs. Gotta save up, or sell my Triple-fi's; which is hard since there are so many for sale at the moment.

I use them on my ears. sounds great there actually

At home, since I run them with 40-60lbs. tube amps that aren't so portable. The only exception is the Grado RS-1. They're magical with tubes, but also work alright straight from an iPod. So I take them everywhere and listen when I don't need isolation and don't worry about leakage. When I do need isolation, I use IEMs straight from an iPod.

As for speakers, I have a few pairs of those, too. Sometimes I want the intimacy of headphones, sometimes I want to hear the AMT-1s throw out the soundstage.

Depends. The open cans (HD650, k601) stay home. There is a closed pair for work and my SE530's for 99.99% of my listening away from home or my campus office.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't take my DT250's to a coffee shop though - I'd just have to find one quiet enough to not force me to use my IEMs!

K701s at home, cause they're huge and tend to fall off even when i walk around my room.

MS2s I bring to work.

People do seem to use them everywhere then.
Would you all normally pick your full sized cans over any IEM's you have, then?
