For my 1500th post and the post that puts me in the upper echelon of Head-fidom, I have decided to start a thread in a forum I have never begun a thread in. At least I don't recall me starting one here...
Anyway, the title of the thread is "I'm a believer!" Well, it is true, I am. Since jumping on the rollercoaster of sound reproduction, I have slowly moved my way up the ladder of cables from radioshack low end "specials" to my present gold plated gold/silver/copper alloy IC's and now Power cord. This is not a review so I'm not going to spew the regular hyperbole of EE love. What I will spew is the sound of pure joy and contentment I have at the moment.
Why? Because at this moment, right here, right now, my system sounds perfect!
Perfect I say? Yes, to these ears, at this moment, there is no glaring fault I am trying to improve on. Nothing I keep rolling in my mind to "try and get rid of."
Am I finished? Are we ever truly finished? No. I still want to mod my cd player (super clock II & super clock psu) and build an external beefy power supply for my Melos as well as purchase a line conditioner but
otherwise I think I am finished the digital/headphone setup.
I'm not really interested in Stax, I've heard the R10's and the Big O is so far out of my price range that I chalk it up to Rockport status.
Today I received the W Enterprises NW power cord and I was immediately floored by the very audible difference between the stock Shanling power cord (not a smurf either...very well built, hospital grade connector, 12 guage wire). Immediately I noticed a clearer sound throughout the spectrum. The bass was faster and more visceral and the edge I find at times with digital has completely vanished. What is left is pure music that I enjoy. At present I am
listening to Ozawa conducting the Boston Symphony playing Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring on HP records. WOW!!!
I could stop now and never look back. Never feel a real need for anything else, speakers or otherwise. I could be happy from here on in. I still have the tweaking bug...so the mods to the cd player and the psu on the SHA-X will go through but really, its overkill and deep down I know it.
This is it for me.
I mean, I can't imagine sound reproduction getting better. At least not at real world prices... I'm beyond the real world. I'm definitely in the Nth dimension, somewhere
approaching the Netheregions of some unknown reality. I feel like I am on some acid trip, yet my only drug is a flat piece of aluminum and about 120V of electricty pumped through 4 tubes and some FETS.
DBT, I know it well. I am finishing up a major drug steady, the largest cardiology drug study ever. DBT is my wet dream. It has permitted high success rates all over the scientific world. In audio...I bet it could succeed as well, but
I would rather trust my ears than an ABX machine. Tonight my wife and I did a small DBT and found 100% of the time, she and I
and my next door neighbour...could tell the difference between the shanling pc and the Music Timbre pc. I'm sold.
I love it, I am keeping it and I want to stay up all night ;istening to my system. I can't though, I have to work tomorrow. But I really really want to.
It's all about the music. I know. But it sure helps that good equipment obtains the truest reproduction possible.
I'm a believer! Cables DO make a difference!
I say Amen to that.
