Quick Review: Comply T400 Foam Tips

Alright. Just got the Comply T400 tips from HeadphoneAddict. (Thanks a lot!)

I've been trying these on all my IEM's so far and this is what I've found:

Comfort and Fit:
Wow. That's all I can say. These are simply the most comfortable tips I've ever tried. I don't know if all foam tips are like this, but this is just amazing. Wearing them on my IEM's, I can't even feel them. They're fluffy and soft, while still providing a good seal (more on that later). The fit is also great. I found that the best method to wear these is to roll the tips around to flatten them, then insert the earphone into your ear and hold it there while the foam expands. It stays in pretty tight while still being comfortable.

10/10

Sound Isolation:
The isolation on these are also nothing short of incredible. I can safely say these isolate 2 to 4 dB more than the stock silicone tips. However, the isolation may vary depending on the size of your ear. Comply's didn't work so well for my friend, who had larger ears.

8/10

Construction:
This is where the Comply's lose a bit. The construction of these tips aren't horrible, but they're not great. Putting them on my IEM's took a while, as it didn't fit at first. Also, when I tried to take them off the IEM, I had to wiggle them off slowly as to not tear them apart. I'm pretty sure this wasn't a problem with the fit, as the website lists this tip as compatible with my IEM's. Last, if you want your tips to last, do not buy the Comply's. You'll probably have to change tips every couple weeks.

4/10

Sound Quality:
There was a definite improvement in sound quality over the silicone tips. The sound is much fuller while still retaining most of the treble. However, some of the sparkiness is gone from the treble, but the added bass makes up for it. I'd highly recommend these if you want better sound in your canalphone.

9/10

Final Score:
8 out of 10

Once again. Thanks a lot to HeadphoneAddict for giving me these!

You are welcome. You have to squeeze them and slowly twist them off like a tight bottle cap. Yeah, the outside foam will completely compress doing that, but the center tube wont compress as much so it wont lock them in place by squeezing. And you can probably use them for 2 months if you don't install and remove them often. Just pick one IEM to use them on, and buy some more now that you know how they sound with your IEM.

Can you comment on how long one pair lasts you, and the rate of deteriotion.

I guessed about two months in the other thread, but I don't use them much. Bought them for my C700 and my daughter's Super.fi that she lost, but then got the Image X10 and didn't need the tips since I wasn't using the C700 anymore.

When I had the Triple.fi in January I didn't know about the Complys T500 or T400 tips, and had to do surgery on Shure black olive foam tips using the center section from my E2c orange foam tips to make them work on the Triple.fi - traded the triples and frankentips to mapstec with some cash for his Stax Lambda Sigs.

Using them every day, about 3 to 4 weeks.

Ok. Looking at the current rate of deterioration, I'll shorten that to 2 weeks.

Tip: Use the rubber core of the Comply inside a Shure black olive. Ditch the comply foam as they don't last at all.

I've been cleaning my Comply tips by letting them soak in water and dish soap for a bit then thoroughly rinsing.  It has extended their lifetime quite a bit.  Not as long as Shures, but I find the Comply foam more comfortable anyway, and they sound better on my phones than Olives.

i use the same methods of cleaning them. warm water and liquid dish soap. gives them a second wind, but they don't last too long, even after that. daily use, i'd say they last about a month, depending how oily your ear holes are. they are the most comfortable and most isolating tips i have tried though. enough so that i've bought 3 additional packs to last me a while. after that though i'll probably look into shures or custom molds, because of costs.

Yup, that's exactly how I clean mine.  I figure compared to the cost of a set of good headphones, $20 for 5 months worth of tips is nothing.
