Zune owners, do you suffer random shutdown on your zune????

Hi guys, I've changed my 1st gen zune 30gb 3 times under warranty and still I got units that suffered from random shutdown. My first one was very bad, it gets worse and worse until it shutdowns every couple of songs. When I received the 2nd one, it shut downs 4-5 times during 8 hours playing period and I ask for another warranty request. They send me another one and I suffered another 2-3 times shutdown during 8 hours period (I'm using it at work) All those times, they sent me a new unit. I'm going to give it a try today, if I still got 2-3 times shutdown, I'll ask for another replacement.

This is sucks. I also give my dad a 30gb zune, it was returned for warranty works because it can't be recharged and they send him a refurb unit which work quite good. It suffer from random shutdown but much less than the one I have, probably 1-2 times in 1 week period which is quite acceptable.

I'm using lame-mp3 encoded at VBR 192kbps. Since my dad's refurb unit works fine, I assume the problems is not caused by the mp3 files.

Son any zune

Get the latest firmware. Here:
Zune.net | Download Zune software

Latest firmware is version 3.1.620

This used to happen to my 30gb Zune. It's because of static electricity.

It's a real pain in the ass, and one of the main reasons I don't use my Zune anymore.

All of my zune have been upgraded to the last firmware. That's the first thing I do when I received them. Just now, I'm on my 2nd song and it's shutting down. This zune is heading for another replacement. What a bad luck I have with zune

That's too bad. Maybe Microsoft can help you out further. I've had my Zune 80 for almost a month now and it has performed flawlessly. The battery life could be better but other than that it's great.

That's crazy how many defected units you've gotten, I've had my Zune30 for about a year and it hasn't had any random shutdowns. Maybe something in your house is interfering with the Zune's wireless system? Not sure, just taking a wild guess, or you just have really bad luck, hope you get it sorted out.

I don't think wifi is the problem since I always turn my wifi off. I like my zune, other than this problem, the only complaint I have is their inability to display asian characters. I'm aware of the hacks to be able to display them but it's too much trouble for something that supposed included by the manufacturer. I hope my next one will be the last one but with the luck I have, I don' think so. Maybe I should asked for a refurb unit instead.

I have had a Zune 30, Zune 80, and Zune 120 and it only happened once with the 30 when I zapped it and myself real good one day from static electricity. Other than that single incident, no problem.

Damn, I guess I am the minority here. What a bad luck I have with zune.

Never really had that problem myself - anyone else got the broken counters on songs - where it read 0:00 throughout?

Actually really like the Zune - just the little things now and then (though my experiences with friend's ipods have not exactly been better)

Only real prob I ever had, and it was w/the last FW, was it only playing a few songs and stopping. I had my Zune 120 on shuffle all songs, and after about 10 songs, it'd stop playing. Seems the issue was resolved when I upgraded to the latest FW, so I'm good ATM.

Update.

I did the update - which largely fixed it - but it still happens every now and then.

I just wish I could use MediaMonkey with the Zune - w/o some insane hacks etc.

The shutdown problem on the 30 was mentioned a lot on the Zune boards for awhile. Many people did seem to think it was a static electricity issue. My first 30 shutdown several times a day. I had that one replaced for a different issue, and my current unit does it, maybe, once every few weeks. I wonder if you could test it by placing it in some sort of case?

Sorry for reviving this thread guys, I sold mine, however I still have another zune belongs to my dad which is supposedly better. However, it's start getting worse now, it shut down during synching which is sucks big time since it will corrupt the file, fill up the hard drive but I can't see the file and find no way to delete it except re-format the zune. I'm on my 3rd time filling the zune and it still get random shutdown before it finished synching. That's it, I'm going to apple. I'll miss the big screen but this random shutdown really irritating.
