REVIEW: WESTONE 3, the ULTIMATE UNIVERSAL IEM vs everything else - AKA W3 Appreciation Thread - Page 30

I own a pair of Shure SE530's, I used to own a pair of Westone UM2's. The best way I have found to get the tips off is this. For reference I am right handed. I hold the driver housing in my left hand, tightly pinching it between my thumb and my first finger, (sometimes I'll add my third finger for a better grip) make sure as you are looking down at what you are doing the tip is pointing to the right of you. Anyway use your right hand fingers, index and thumb and gripping the tip twist very slowly and patiently towards the front of you. You are only moving your right hand. If you are twisting both your right hand and your left hand you are more likely to break the plastic tube. Just keep the driver stationary and in one position in your left hand, and use your right hand to do the twisting and you shouldn't have any problems. The key is to take it slow, and be very patient. I have never broke any of the IEMS I own but I can only imagine how much it would suck considering how expensive they are.

Now they're stuck pretty darn tight.
Any recommendations?

I've been happily listening to the 3's, with Medium Olive Tips (very nice indeed). Was going to try some A/B comparisons with the soft grey silicon and the comply tips, but when I went to remove the Olive tips (rotate to break friction, then twist off - done it a million times on my SE530's) - and they wouldn't budge. Even after enough force to risk breaking the sound tube.

Has anybody here faced / overcome the same problem?
If so, your advice would be deeply appreciated.
(I won't risk breaking these - couldn't stand to be without this sound for the holidays).

They've got to come off sooner, or later...
(worst case, I guess, send them to Westone - but that's a hassle for all concerned).

p0wderh0und?

Oh well, at least the Olives sound fantastic with the 3's!
are your hands sweaty?
try using a dry cloth or something, wrap it round the olives and twist it out

Yeah, the olives are very difficult to get off. But they're so great . Just twist it back and fourth before as you're slowly pulling. It shouldn't break.

yeah I should've jumped in the car and went down the path of where I think he was going. Issue is he goes in a car from house to house and never gets out of the car since no house wall mailboxes can be used. I promise you he was too lazy to get out and knock the door.

Maybe it's just me, but I would file a complaint.

I feel your pain, ever since our mailbox was deemed unsafe for the carriers and moved to a community box about 100 feet up the road the mailman doesn't even come to the door. We were having some work down in the house the day my 3's came so I was home all day with various workers in and out. I went up to get the mail at around noon and there was a delivery notice that said "no answer" on it. I didn't have a car to drive to the post office in the city but luckily my parents called wanting to drop by so I got them to pick them up.

i get all my stuff delivered to my work office.

issue is, if they spell my name wrong (like livewires did once) they reject the package. i ended up catching a taxi for $60 to some random suburb to the fedex facility.

work is always a good safe option otherwise, either that, or get a PO box
