REVIEW: WESTONE 3, the ULTIMATE UNIVERSAL IEM vs everything else - AKA W3 Appreciation Thread - Page 21

the initial review seems detailed and objective - but the title of the thread shouting out that everything else is losers, i think shows that the OP is probably drinking a bit too much of the hype kool-aid.

perhaps when he calms down a bit he can actually post what is really objective.

nobody shouts losers like that and tries to pretend to be anything but subjective. i was hoping for something more balanced for a review with that much time taken to write it, but i suppose fanboyism can come in all shapes and sizes.

One question: have you listened to the Westone 3? If you do, you may very well join the club But I know what you mean...

I own a ton of IEMs and would not put my reputation on the line if I didn't think the Westone 3 was sent to planet Earth from another galaxy They are simply different. Now personal taste is subjective but the reaction I had when I first listened to the Westone 3 was OH F!!! Emotions are hard to be analyzed and written about and I take my hat off to HA and vorlon1.

I put my Westone 3 on and I feel silly happy. I start smiling like I don't know what (see how it's hard). The confidence I have is that when someone actually listens to them it will be very hard not to be so impressed. It's hard not to sound like a fanboy until you listen to them. I don't remember sticking my neck out this far for any other IEM in the past 5 years. It all comes down to the truth.

If I weren't so impressed I'd sit back and watch. But since I am,...

To be able to write about sound is a difficult art in itself and it will never fully explain one person's experience. It's like describing what some food tastes like. You can try but if you don't taste it you will never know.

Initially I experienced excessive sibilance with the 3's but I think I've managed to hit a sweet spot for myself with the large Comply tips.

So I guess several impressions about the highs (sibilance, roll-off, lacking) are tip/fit related. (?)

Oh, and Falv, thanks for chiming in. As an ES representative, that's really "sticking your neck out". Hats off to you too.

There is a humongous thread containing dozens of opinions, and the focus is on the headline and that fanboy thing again. Man, I hate that stupid term. Means absolutely nothing, really.

Truth is, I barely read the headline. Most people just want to get impressions of the W3 (or express their view of the phones), not quibble over headlines. Flavio said it well. idiotekniQues, you should just pick up some W3s and say what you think, play Devil's advocate, whatever. That would work much better.

Over the past 3 days I have been adding links to peoples impressions at the bottom of my review, IF the impressions are more than a couple of lines and have some real data or information in them that makes a point. I have 17 links there so far and can confirm that not all the impressions were fan boi favorable ones. The good go with the bad.

And, some of those links I even pulled in from other threads, including ones proclaiming the UE11Pro to be king of all. I definitely want people to get a good picture of these, and not everyone will see my review eye to eye with me, we all hear differently. Of course I am happy that it seems 80-90% of the people hear it like I do with these...

No EQ, Nano 4G.

Bi flange tips from ER6i. Same tips I used with the Shure's. I really love these tips for fit, isolation, and ease of putting in. I'd be sad if I had to use another tip to get rid of the sibilance. It's not horrible, and I guess you can't have better high's without it, but it does annoy me in certain parts of certain songs.

I would not buy or use those Ety tips till they are proven to not be the cause of his sibilance.

Wasn't going to, just curious if they still sold them. On another matter, did you see that the CNET reviewer reversed them for a hang down style, wonder if anyone here tried that? Sounds interesting, but weird.
