I prefer my W3s (and SE535s and RE0s and NE-8s) out of my FiiO E5 than straight out of my iPod or iPhone. But yes, my D10 does sound that much better.

I just ordered a D4, I can't wait to hear my W2's and W3's through it..

The D4 is indeed a nice little dac/amp there. I tried it out a while ago when I had the CK10 and it was quite nice.

eager to hear about the D4 as well, have been keeping an eye on it for a while now and while I know the funds are not there for it that won't keep me from letting my mind wander...

I'm hoping it will be here by the end of the week, it was shipped out yesterday..

This will be my last personal audio purchase until the new year, at the earliest.  The holidays are fast approaching and my daughter is already working on her list.  I've scaled down to my W3's and W2's for primary listening, M6's for outdoor use (on their way), the D4 will replace my PA2V2 and allow me to bypass my crappy onboard soundcard, I have a great LOD for my iPhone and a Clip+, add to that a great library of music to listen to.. What more could I ask for??  (I know it's a loaded question - LOL)

I would say not much else unless you are considering headphones in any way. I am getting near this myself actually, I am perfectly set with headphones *Senn HD600* and pending the arrival of my ck10's iem's should be done. Really the only thing I would consider in the near future would be a better amp for the Senn's, possibly a Schiit Asgard. Other than that however I just need a DAC or attunator thing to get ride of the crazy loud hiss from my laptops sound card. Really getting annoyed by it

Oh boy it is a great pairing!!! Woohoo!!.. The D4 Mamba is on my desk. I have it hooked up via USB and it's fantastic.  I now have my full library at my fingertips again through Foobar (minus the hiss from my crappy onboard sound card) and me and my ears couldn't be happier.  My first impression (a quick A/B (iPhone-LOD)) vs. my PA2V2 as a standalone Amp is a gain in separation and detail, and a more balanced sound.  (The PA2V2 is fantastic, especially for the price, but at lower volumes there's channel imbalance and no external way to adjust the gain.)   I'll post further impressions once I do a little more testing, but I can say this, I'm very pleased so far.  The DAC works perfectly and I can appreciate Foobar again.  I'm off to listen for a bit.

I think the D4 is a nice little dac and amp and a high value being a 2 in 1. I don't know what it sounds like stock but the one I did try had some different opamp in there and it did sound very nice. I considered getting one before I settled on my transportable dac/amp since I didn't think I would need a portable amp but I ended up getting a portable amp since then ;p

It sounds great so far, and it truly is my all in one solution.  The DAC is fantastic, the amp section has more than enough power (even via USB only), and if I want a portable amp all I have to do is throw a 9V in it and be on my way.  So far I'm really digging the synergy with the W3's.  I've definitely noticed better separation and detail (DAC vs. iPhone/LOD) which I expected, but didn't think would be immediately noticeable.  I have to do more amp vs. amp testing, but I'm pretty sure my PA2V2 will be in the FS forum soon.

The next time I'm going to be in NYC, I'll let you know so you can have a listen.

Now you see why the D4 is one of my favorite portable DAC/amps.

If you open up the PA2V2, you'll see two blue coloured screws. Each one adjusts the gain for L and R. You can better tweak the channel balance that way.

Oh I know all about those screws, I messed up the balance the first night I had it and it took me a solid 3 hours to get it right again.  I meant with the volume control knob, when you turn it down to very low volume there's channel imbalance at the gain level it's set at now.  If I turn the volume up slightly it balances out, but becomes too loud.  I'd have to lower the gain on both screws to have a better range of volume control.  I don't know if I'm willing to adjust both screws and fight to get it back in balance again, now that I have the D4.

Gottcha...

I preferred the PA2V2 with full sized cans BTW.
