No love for Sony XB 700? - Page 2

Wow can't wait for these to hit the uk.
I'm not a huge bass lover but i have to say i think they are the most sexy phones ive ever seen.
So i'm gonna get a pair for that reason.

Ok so the bass is huge on these. What is the bass like compared to DT770pro?

The cord is short. Around 1m. You may need an extention if you're using it on a PC or floor/shelf system.
Much thanks..I will need the extension. I listen lying down..Bass boost makes my 650 sound like a car sub..I like it at times, for a mind numbing experience, but never for critical listening.

I've decided to get the XB500's

I went to the SOnystyle store and tried out both 700 and 500 with my own music (high bass) (Ipodnano, with hip hop bass booster on), and i actually got more of the impression i wanted from the 500, (even though they are both breathtaking)

Really it delivers, i imagined what this may have sounded like and it exceeded that.

The 700's bass is incredibly deep, the lows just engulf your ears, very smooth, and i think this may be the reason why the 500 had a greater impression on me.

The 500's bass was also ust as deep and the lows were there too, but there was a bit more punch to the 500's (BUT very smooth).
Its perfect for dance, and hip hop which is what i tried to compare.

I compared the highs and mids to some sony v6's that were there, and the highs were not lost at all (After taking off bass boost from ipod), but of course not the same as the v6's but still very good. I compared this using some rock.

Im getting them tommorow, getting gitty just thinking about them on my head again.

Guess they are back on my to buy list... Too bad people write them off as just another DJ 700 fart Cannon.

I think this is a great headphone. It replaced my K81DJ for portable use. It also sounds better than HD485 to my ears.

Yeah they are definitely not fart cannons. You can enjoy all sorts of music on them. Rock sounds good. Can't say they sound any worse than MS1 when playing rock music.

I really hope BB carries these, so I can save a few dollars.

Actually I just listened to some Pearl Jam, Rage against the machine and Pantera first on XB700 and then on MS1 and yes MS1 does sound a bit better. Mids are more forward and of better quality. Guitars sound sweeter and drums are tighter. XB700 is still fine with rock I'd say.

And if you like bass and electronic music XB700 will win hands down.

Anyone try classical/symphonic soundtracks out on these things?
Haha I third the guilty pleasure. I got mine on a boxing day sale for 100$ off. They should be here tomorrow!

They're hilarious. Love mine? But they sound fairly terrible, compared to a nicer phone. Like, the differences between them and even something like the sr60 or the HD280 is really, really sudden and apparent as far as clarity goes.

but sometimes I want to doof doof doof...

oh, and don't be afraid to EQ -into- the bass, isntead of away from - they can sound harsh with the highs up too loud.

these aremazing cans and i have said plenty in other threads to hilight my love for them as a set of phones that will bring hifi to a modest headphone out and ss DAC such as the e-mu 0202usb. these are keepers for sure. imagine a nice warm tube amp and some well done vinyl and a great expensive set of warmish phones... take that enjoyment ant shrink it down to a fraction and you get these, but with flat response well below 20hz. by no means reference cans, but still fun. these are 100% about music. sony markets them with skullcandy and dr. dre, which is a shame really.

sony made one mistake by using a short cable. still everyoneshould have a pair just to relax without trying to be so critical.

yes i do love these, my guilty pleasures xb700s. dont know any ther headphone quite like them.

EDIT: i have never associated harsh with these.... the v700 driver is very good with smooth hats and cymbols which other phones do fatigue me with. the amazing thing is they can maintain most of their character straight off my sansa. Compared to my 25th anniv. koss portapros, these amaze me with what can be done with a tiny portable, but the headphone out of any dac, amp, reciever or whatever is golden.

So how has your impression of them been so far? These are what I am looking at to carry around with. I wanted the 700 but seem too big!

These look sick. I might buy a pair to transplant my YH-1 drivers into. Anyone know if these are easy to take apart?
