With respect you are not (really) taking responsbility, you are accepting one part of the penalty for your misdeed , the initial and relatively small financial part, and attempting to evade the other more serious part. Also you have stated openly that you intend to fight the ticket.

haha of course I will be fighting it!
Let us please at least be honest here.

If you really have an issue with the NY point system beyond that you are annoyed that you got caught, then I seriously (and uttery without irony) suggest you might consider a career in state or local politics and campaign to have the statutes changed.

In any event ...

NYS DMV - Driver's Manual - Chapter 2

You can reduce your point total by up to four points and save up to ten percent on your auto liability insurance premiums by taking a DMV-approved accident prevention course. However, completion of a point reduction course cannot prevent a mandatory suspension or revocation or be applied as a "credit" against future points. For more information, see the publication Point & Insurance Reduction (C-32A), available from the DMV Internet Office, by request from a DMV Call Center, and at any motor vehicle office.

NYS DMV - (Brochure) The Point and Insurance Reduction Program: Facts for Consumers

Please note that insurance companies may also have point systems of their own. These have no relationship to, and should not be confused with, the DMV point system

So despite your lawbreaking the State of New York offers partial forgiveness in the interest of road safety , I would call that enlightened.

You think 4 points is bad?
Telica got caught doing 81 in a 50 mph zone on the Belt Parkway and besides getting a $150 ticket, she received 6 points (30+ mph over speed limit, she's a maniac) and then a month later we were informed that as of Nov 1st of that year, anyone who had 6 or more points on their license had to pay a $300 surcharge. This was not advertised to NY drivers license holders...NY just decided to implement it without any notification. If there are changes to the rules, we should be informed.

BTW- This also requires a DAT (desk appearance ticket) which means that you have to go in front of a judge and lose a day's pay, without the option of beating it. Just like making you sit in the corner for being bad.

Crime just doesn't pay like it used to. I told her that if she got another ticket, she was on her own (she's intensely frightened of judges and made me come along). Bear in mind that these are judges who couldn't make it in the real world and have to sit in traffic court all day. Saying they are miserable at work, is an understatement.
