Please recommend some budget speakers for NAD C320BEE

Thread Starter
I'm planning to get a NAD C320BEE amp and am having trouble deciding on which speakers to get with it. I'd like to spend around $300, but $400 would be ok if it made a big difference.

I want to stay away from anything with harsh highs, I like the highs to be somewhat subdued. Clean, powerful vocals and detailed bass are what I like. Also, If I could get by without using a subwoofer that would be a big plus (neighbor downstairs is a complainer).

Thanks!

There are many budget spekers that will be happy partnered with the NAD. Look at makes like B&W, AE, Monitor Audio Mission and Dali.
Dali in particular are known for their warmer balance and great vocal rendition

I would get speakers that tend towards being dynamic and exciting rather than neutral also something that is easy to drive. The Nad is good but it can't get too loud and it can be downright boring if you match it up with really laidback or neutral speakers.

I've been using some vintage Polks with an old NAD integrated (3020) as a second stereo, and they do rather nicely. I'd recommend looking at their new LSi series 7...if you shop you can get them. Polk is really starting to make some very good gear again, and it represents a good value too.

I'm using some PSB Image 2Bs with a NAD C740 receiver and getting good results, although the midrange is a little 'dry'. I was initially concerned that the metal dome tweeter would give me grief, but no problems so far. I don't want to comment too much on the overall sound just yet as my source is, well, embarassing

That said, many on these boards have noted the synergy between NAD and PSB speakers.

Energy C-1 retails for $300/pair and should mate very well with NAD. I will be getting a pair of C-1's next week.

I would recommend some StudioLabs 5.3 floorstanders -
www.speakerdirect.com (prices are in canadian dollars)

very smooth midrange and treble due to the soft dome tweeter and excellent bass response from the dual drivers. Nicely hand-made cabinets as well (and heavy )
they are however a 4 Ohm load - but I think the NAD should have no problems with it...

raynegus: Sorry, but that's a "not enough input error". For decent recommendations, you should also tell us the measurements of the room, whether its cramped with dampening stuff (sofa, comfy chairs, curtains, thick carpets...) or rather scarcely furnitured, your placement options, the desired size and maybe the type of your floor (concrete, wood, trampled earth... ). Otherwise there are just too many decent options...

Greetings from Munich!

P.S.: Mentioning your location also couldn't harm...
