What a bummer. You'll just have to send me those terrible SE530s. I'll be happy to take them off your hands and relieve your suffering.

Well, i wont sell my shures unless they brake again and shure gives me another new pair. The items you have told me to buy look nice, but will they make any difference in sound quality? Also, i usually don't like buying things online, so could you tell me what else i can do?
...not. Jesus. Cable sound. Blah.
You should only buy a different cable if you don't like its stiffness.

I just bought my third SF3. Couldn't resist the buy.com 39.99 Altec version sale. I am seeing if Awwan will put a straight plug on a cable for me.

@ xz123:How many thousands of people on Head-fi alone have had headphones recabled? How many people bought Westone cables from Jaben? Whether you want better SQ or comfort or microphonics improvement or stiffness what difference does it make. It is up to the person for their own reasons to buy one. BTW, the Awwan cable is regarded to improve all of the above for under $50 shipped. Why not let the OP decide if he wants to try and upgrade the current phone for improvement which may be safer or try something different.

I make a suggestion, that is a proven one btw, and comments have to be made. If I was the OP I would want all the options made known so I can make a good choice.

Anyway, I was not as thrilled with the SF3 stock as the OP is. I found them too harsh in the treble to listen to w/o an attenuator with my source. I felt compelled to get to Radio Shack and buy one on the 2nd day with them. I did then buy the Shure E4G as my upgrade phone but felt the SF3 were too close and the $120 difference was wasted and sold the Shure's. They seemed to be $50 better but not $120. In that me and the OP are similar. The mods I did changed them from the bass light/harsh treble phones to something that put a hurt on the Triple.fi and ER4S. They bested the E500(at that time) also but I only auditioned and did not own them and maybe not able to spend enough time with them.

And as I just bought them again and will mod them with the improved cable, added impedance and better tips and I'm sure they will give even the Westone 3 a run for their money. The one I used to have easily bested the UM2(which I had fairly recently) in every way possible in SQ and lost in every way comfort and fit-wise. Okay, I did removed the memory wire from the Westone ES cable, so they had essentially the same cable but still wouldn't fit great or win kudos for comfort.

If the OP doesn't want to buy online then the options are more limited. The Westone 3 could be an option as it has a signature more like an improved SF3 but where would you buy it but online. Maybe open up a Paypal account.

Other than that I guess the Triple.fi is the only available option(correct me) since you already have SE530. Possibly the Sennheiser IE7 or IE8 are in some places depending where you reside. you might want to start a thread asking about places to buy high-end earphones in your particular area. No harm in asking.

Anyway, just trying to help. Good luck with your search Dimitri!

Thank you very much Jant for your long and thorough response. Currently i have no extra cash to spend on a new pair of IEM's such as the TF10 pro, but if you say that the parts you told me to buy are a worthy upgrade, then i will try my best to get them by christmas. Some sellers require you to pay using a paypal account which i currently do not have nor do i know how to get, but if i do or the seller agrees to accept credit cards, then i will be happy to buy the items you have suggested i buy!

Btw, that cable u recommended is white and my IEM's are black, so the contrast wouldn't look so pretty. But i am seriously considering that Fiio amplifier because i want to make the most out of my music without having to spend a fortune. Thing is i live in the United Arab Emirates and i was wondering where i could get them from other than that site. And will they be able to ship it to me? For how much? and what is the coupon code i need to use to get a discount? Thanks mate!

[This rant is about SQ mainly]
How many thousands of people believe in God? Without proof? It's ********, from a rational point of view. It's quite comparable with cables. The mere fact that many people believe in something doesn't mean it's true.
To keep this (probably ages old) discussion short:
If people think their music sounds better with different cables: so be it. But by advertising them as better in this forum )pr elsewhere) the placeblo-like effect is actually created. You want your cable to sound better - so it does. Of course you want a cable for several hundred $ to sound better than your 10 $ cable.
It would be better to tell "newbies" to "try different cables for SQ as some people think of them to improve the SQ". Instead of (as many do, you didn't do it that extremely) claiming that certain cables do whatever-vodoo, without any proof (except for "I believe" or "I hear a difference!").
To sum it up: ABX or GTFO.

Anyway, who cares.

Oh, and just so nobody gets me wrong: It's not about the money and me being jealous.

@drummerdimitri
Hope your ears will be happy, whatever you end up doing

You should probably take the cable discussion to another thread. It could go on for days.

With that said, the sf3 is a great headphone for the price. You can find them at Radioshack for 29.99 sometimes. That's how I got my two pairs.

They sound worlds better when either amping from a low gain amp, or adding at least 50 ohms for use straight out of an ipod. I added 90 ohms and my players powered them just fine.

However both pairs are dead, the socket came out when removing a stubborn cable and ripped out the internal wiring.

Yeah, I know. I tried to keep it short. (I study philosophy, maybe in a few years and after several courses in logic I can come back here and seriously argue

Anyway, I'd really like to know if the bass issue on my X5 was caused by the sf3 or by the problems of the X5 with low impedance headphones. Guess I'll find out soon with the UE11.
The issue is that there is bass rolloff with low impedance cans on any mp3 player. This is well documented using the X5, D2, and other players using several impedances.

Bass rolloff seemed to be nearly gone at 80ohms. Though you could do anything above 60 and get great results.
I knew about that, but I didn't know it was an issue up to such high impedances, too. (But iirc not on any mp3 player. I think the Sansa Clip didn't have that issue (?) )
Anyway, I'm immune to that now, anyway, due to my 2Move.

So, thanks. Basically this means I should give my sf3 a try again someday
