I'm not what you would call a big drinker, but I love songs about a good bender. Here are a few of my favourites:

Korpiklaani - Beer, Beer http://www.myspace.com/korpiklaaniofficial
Spirit of the West - The Crawl
Great Big Sea - The Night Pat Murphy Died myspace.com - Great Big Sea

And, I defy anyone to find a better drinking song, nay, drinking anthem, than Spirit of the West's Home for a Rest: MySpace.com - Spirit of the West

Go!

Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murpheys, The Tossers
they all have some great stuff related to alcohol, and consuming too much of it.

What we sang in undergrad would violate Head-Fi's terms of use. Besides, the filter would block most of the lyrics anyhow.

Reverend Horton Heat - Callin' In Twisted.

Hangin' with friends, we were doin' slammers/ They were trying to get me hammered/ I said no but they insisted...I'm callin' in p*ssed, hung over y'all/ Gonna use the fake cough when I make the call/ I'm sick, I'm calling in twisted...

There is a young, fun-loving band called Gaelic Storm that has been reviving the Irish drinking song tradition. Apart from old chestnuts, they pen very funny new songs.

Seven Drunken Nights by the Dubliners

As I went home on Monday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw a horse outside the door where my old horse should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that horse outside the door where my old horse should be?

Ah, you're drunk,
you're drunk you silly old fool,
still you can not see
That's a lovely sow that me mother sent to me
Well, it's many a day I've traveled a hundred miles or more
But a saddle on a sow sure I never saw before

And as I went home on Tuesday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw a coat behind the door where my old coat should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that coat behind the door where my old coat should be

Ah, you're drunk,
you're drunk you silly old fool,
still you can not see
That's a woolen blanket that me mother sent to me
Well, it's many a day I've traveled a hundred miles or more
But buttons in a blanket sure I never saw before

And as I went home on Wednesday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw a pipe up on the chair where my old pipe should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that pipe up on the chair where my old pipe should be

Ah, you're drunk,
you're drunk you silly old fool,
still you can not see
That's a lovely tin whistle that me mother sent to me
Well, it's many a day I've traveled a hundred miles or more
But tobacco in a tin whistle sure I never saw before

And as I went home on Thursday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw two boots beneath the bed where my old boots should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns them boots beneath the bed where my old boots should be

Ah, you're drunk,
you're drunk you silly old fool,
still you can not see
They're two lovely Geranium pots me mother sent to me
Well, it's many a day I've traveled a hundred miles or more
But laces in Geranium pots I never saw before

And as I went home on Friday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw a head upon the bed where my old head should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that head upon the bed where my old head should be

Ah, you're drunk,
you're drunk you silly old fool,
still you can not see
That's a baby boy that me mother sent to me
Well, it's many a day I've traveled a hundred miles or more
But a baby boy with his whiskers on sure I never saw before

Show me the way to go home
I'm tired and I want to go to bed
I had a little drink about an hour ago
And its gone right to my head
Where ever I may roam
On land or sea or foam
You will always hear me singing this song
Show me the way to go home
