Last question.

So these (amped or unamped) definitely beat out Head-Direct RE2 (amped or unamped)? (both amped by FiiO E5)

NE-7M or the NE-8's for my 3g iPhone?

I know, i know, theres not much info on the newer NE's. At this point if they are better than my cx300s i'll try them out.

Don't know.

The only color I see is the bronze looking version. Is there a basic black? Thanks.

hi fellow head-fiers. i'm just new here. i ordered my pl30 last 11/22. until now i'm still waiting for it to come. hope i will not be disappointed. i just had my old sony ex71. does anyone here could guarantee that ne-7m will be much better with the pl30? who have heard both and could cite differences? i guess my ex-71 is now very distant among these.

Don't know about the PL30, but I assure you it's miles ahead of your EX71

The pl30 and NE-7M have very different sound signatures. The NE-7M are very bass heavy + warm sounding, while the pl30 are bass light + neutral sounding. The NE-7 are a clear step above the pl30 in my opinion.

New listener here, who went with some NE-7Ms based on recommendations that led me to this thread. Unfortunately, either my set has problems or my ears do. Basically, it's as if there's no low end at all! These sound almost tinny, regardless of whether it's 128kbps MP3 or FLAC/Apple Lossless, either from my laptop or my iPhone (3G). I did move from a rather bass-heavy set (v.moda Vibes), but the difference between the two seems way too big. Even my well-abused, 8-year-old folding headphones that came with a cheap Discman have more kick to them.

Now, admittedly, I only got them yesterday, and judging by the posts here, a little time to burn in is necessary. But for me, out of the box they sound almost like everything is 64kbps/22khz. I tried all 3 of the buds that came with it, and the smallest made it worse, the mediums were okay, and the large wouldn't fit.

I really want to like these, so I'm wondering if it's possible I just got a bad set, or if burning in will help. FWIW, the phone mic and control works just fine, better than the stock iPhone set (which physically hurt my outer ears and are therefore impossible to wear for longer than 30sec). Did anyone else run into a similar situation?

The NE-7M should be bass heavy. I'm guessing you weren't able to get a seal. Maybe try the tips from your V-Moda or comply tips?

I had a similar feeling with the stock tips. I changed over to Comply T400s, and all the good stuff was there. I was just like you. When I opened the box and popped them in, I thought maybe HPAddict was addicted to something else (sorry Larry). I immediately swapped out the crappy silicone sleeves for foamies, and bingo! So I believe it's strictly the sleeves. In my case, if I had not had some Complys on hand, I would have sent them back pronto. I was more than a little concerned, in fact. I could get nothing more than a tinny sound from them using the OEM tips, but. tp be fair, that has been the case for me with other canal phones as well, including the RE2s, the Denon 700s, etc. I just hate those flimsy OEM tips, and can never get a good seal with them.

So no, it's not you. I heard the same thing, but the Complys solved the problem. Now that's an semi-expensive fix, but at $49, I can deal with it. On the other hand, if I had planned on using the OEM tips, in the words of a Soprano cast member (take your pick), fuggeddaboutittt.

Funny thing is, I bought these are more of a curious buy than anything else, and they do have the switch for my Touch. By a longshot, I still prefer my X10s for walking about, and the W3s for serious sitting and listening.

Wow, this might be my next IEM. Was originally going for a PL-30, but gifted it to a friend instead. I'm just too content (and broke) at the moment with my Koss KSC75

Thanks for the calm advice. I just went to Amazon and ordered a 3-pair of the T400s you mentioned. Truth be told, an extra $15 for a $50 set still ends up being less than the last set I bought!

Good to hear that it might just be the tips instead of the set. I should get the T400s either tomorrow or Monday, so I'll try to let you know what happens.

I have an extra set of new Complys T400 tips on the Denon C700 that I haven't used. Since tstarn06 says those tips will fit the NE-7M I will send you the pair for free. Just send me a PM and I'll get them in the mail to you asap.

EDIT - okay I see you have some on the way, so instead do you want me to try the T400 on the NE7M myself (after I get home from picking up kids from school), and then I can tell you how they sound to me?

That sounds good (no pun intended). I just switched out the tips from the v.moda and there was perhaps the slightest bit of improvement, although it could have just been that me ears are used to those tips.

I am sure the Complys will make the difference. I know, because it happened to me. Funniest thing is, I didn't even bother with the stock tips, went right to the Complys. And immediately understood what HPAddict was talking about with these phones. But just for kicks, I tried the stock tips, and ugh. No matter how I shoved them in, or what size I used, I got that tinny, no bass sound, which I just knew was wrong based on my initial listen. I can see how opening the box and getting that sound my freak you out. I hope the Complys work for you. Don't forget to roll them, and ensure they are in their very tight. That should do it. Look forward to your experience (keeping fingers crossed).
