Ha ha, yes, I've been quiet in the W3 threads lately. Well, briefly, I couldn't fix the sibilance with them. I know it's only been affecting some people (lucky!!), but when I heard it, it made me really...

And having spent so much money on them, I just couldn't past the sibilance issue, or that they were so unpredictable with tips. If there'd been NO sibilance at all, I would never have got rid of them a second time, but every time I heard it, I'd think of the $600 I spent on them, and it really peed me off.

Then I read someone's tip for solving the ear-rubbing issues I had with the IE8, so I bought them (again), tried the simple tip, and it worked! They don't have the same detail or clarity as the W3, but I actually don't mind sacrificing some of the detail if I can lose the sibilance at the same time. And there are things I prefer about the IE8, like the soundstage and the bass.
So I'm happy for the moment

EDIT: And the tip about not pushing the IE8 all the way in really tamed the midrange I found so aggressive the first time round. And I still get decent isolation using the foam tips.

Oh okay! I totally understand ur feeling.

I myself am very happy with the IE8 atm but i wish i'd get the chance to try the W3 and other phones like TF10pro & X10's too(like dying becoz of the curiosity..). Glad that you are now happy with ur earphones! At least you know exactly how they all sound to ur ears! so jealous!!

btw i'm quite curious about the coming touchscreen walkman too...

I always used the triples amped . I can't help what I hear...it's just the triples really do it for me in every way soundwise. The only thing that ever made me say WOW from the first listen. I wanted to like the w3 as much cuz as I stated the fit and comfort are unbeatable. I didn't have a sibalance issue with the w3...they just never wowed me the way the triples do. We all hear differently I guess.

Ironically, with TFPro I found most tips to sound pretty similar to one another and it all came down to what would stay in my ears. The (T400?) complys fit the best. All the silicones would too easily dislodge themselves and I never cared to mod an "olive".
I found the same thing; with my Triple.fi Pros before, tip selection had more to do with comfort/seal than its effect on the sound. With the Westone 3s, the SQ is significantly more sensitive to tip choice, and most of them are perfectly comfortable/usable for me, unlike the Triple.fi which I couldn't even get a proper seal with, or would lose seal after a few minutes, if I didn't use the right tip.

I hate to bring the focus back to the IE8, but for those of you who have heard both the Westone 3 and the IE8, relatively speaking, how much better is the instrument placement, detail, clarity and resolution of the Westone 3 than the IE8? Like, I know the IE8 isn't as good as the Westone 3 in these respects, but I would like to know to what degree, if anyone can even base it in terms of the SE530 (which I own).

Instrument placement: i find the IE8 better maybe due to the very wide soundstage and you can more or less hear where the instrument is playing from.

Detail: W3 wins big time for this. It's extremely detailed in all 3 lows, mids and highs. While the IE8 is rather dark and relaxed (in which i like, heh!)

Clarity: Once there is details, the clarity is the same as well (i think). The clarity is good for it's highs, mids and lows. So therefore, it's better than the IE8.

W3 wins 2-1.

Resolution: I dunno actually

Still, i like the IE8 cuz of the natural, wide soundstage, good instrument placement, powerful mids and bass.

I think im in the wrong thread if i say that the IE8 flushes more than the W3 cuz the IE8 goes right into my ear cuz i have a big ear canal, so it flushes very nicely with the pillow on my bed because of the flat and square IE8 shape.

I hate to push the issue, but seeing how it seems the Westone 3 is now much better than the IE8 in these terms, can it be compared to the SE530?

I solved the w3 sibilance issue completely using the shure triple flange tips (umodded..great isolation btw which improves SQ too i guess?)..The standard complys came in second with some slight sibilance issues with them..other tips were unbearable for me because of the sibilance issues..

I suggest you read all (IE8/W3) threads again completely as you seem to duck here and there regarding inclination. It is a matter of preference rather than 'better'. There are equally the number that like or dislike something in particular in a phone, question is, what are your priorities?

I've gone through all the threads. All I'm trying to do is see where the IE8 falls in rank in terms of clarity and detail with the other IEMs out there. Obviously the Westone 3 is well above the IE8 based on what others are saying. Then I hear others saying the IE8 is just better than the SE530, which I have. But I'm having a hard time understanding how much: Deciding whether getting it is an upgrade or just a sidestep.

I'm just gonna let it go, no one needs to answer anything. I'll just go with it. I just hate buying things without knowing for sure that they'll be worth it to me. Like when I bought my UM2: I was very positive about it, but I wasn't 100 percent sure. It ended up going back 3 days after I got it.

But from what I've seen, I will like the IE8 very much. So like I said, just forget it.

You'll really never know 100% any of the time until you get to hear them for yourself.

True, but I like to be as sure as I possibly can, especially when throwing this kind of money around.

O.K. This is what I have concluded from all my reading here and elsewhere.
My impression and conviction so YMMV.

IE8 much better than Shure 530(all regards except Isolation(10% better)).
IE8 better than W3 except detail(slightly) and isolation(30% better).
Other variables include many people having fit issues with W3 over IE8.
IE8 Can be had much cheaper if you look around.

All in a nutshell.

Hope this helps. BTW I will be purchasing the IE8 real soon.
