Thanks for the new edit, vorlon. Goes to show that most of the impressions users will hear are definitely fit dependent. I'll try my stakes with the Jays gels first and hope they give a perfect fit. The UM56 would definitely be the utmost fit, if it'll be the last resort.

I'm using the tri-flange cut back to the last flange and am liking the sound. The W3s are not as flush to my ear as with the small Shure olive tips, but the sound quality is better.

It will likely be a unique journey for each to find the right tip. I am considering the UM56.

Agree. Many of us will end up with the custom sleeves. Why not? They take out all the guesswork, hassle, etc. All you want to do is enjoy the W3s, not try to figure out which tips to use/shave/mod etc. Now, if a pair of tips/modded tips works, you are that far ahead.

I concur and enough said. Picked mine up today, put them on and can't bring myself to take a break from listening. Going on 2 hours now. Is that a bad thang! HE HE HE

Just to add a serious note. These are one comfortable pair of earphones.

Hey, I really can't wait to hear what your experience with the Jays tips is like. I'm struggling to find more than on option with the included tips. Please keep me posted!

Yes, I've received my 3 yesterday.

Actually, it's my 1st IEM I've always been using earbuds type before this.

So, here comes my newbie question. Please don't flame me for it.

How does the perfect isolation feels like on the ears? Should it block out most of the external sound? Kind of like sticking my finger into both ears and making a vacuum in it. Is that how it should feel like.

ahhian - yes

a good seal will block out around 80-90% of outside noise, this will also be evident in sq.

so a loose seal = crappy bass, and little isolation

thats my opinion

edit: oh lucky you for W3 as your first iem!

Here is how well they tuck into the ear with Westome UM-56 custom sleeves. The clear thing sticking out is the handle to remove the tip should the earphone become disconnected from the custom tip:
