Mine just arrived in today's mail. Mike from Freq City mailed his orders on Wednesday, so I imagine quite a few should be showing up today. Initial out of the box impressions: seriously tight and low bass, I definitely hear bass elements I am not used to hearing this distinctly or fully. Tight, not muddy or colored. Mids seem quite lush, pleasantly forward, but not aggressive, highs clear, no sibilance. There might be a bit of a lower mid-emphasis due to the powerful bass, but I have to see how this sounds over time. The whole presentation is very balanced, no grain to the sound, very smooth, the bass strength will take getting used to for me, but it is both tight and deep, something I am not used to hearing to this degree. Later today between football games I will try to do a bit of a comparison between these and UM2s, TF 10s, E 500s and SA 6's.

Hey Rob, how midbassy are they? A comparison with the SE530 and Triples in this regard would help.
Also, do you think that cymbals hit harder and more realistically than on the ESW9?

Westone had requested us to hold all shipments until Friday, November 28th.

I'm not sure if some customers already got their Westone 3 from us, but please let me explain what could have happened:

We sent an email on Thursday evening explaining the following:

"To customers with active Westone 3 orders at Earphone Solutions:

You may have already received or you will receive an email today with a tracking number showing shipping date of November 26 or November 25.

That only happened because we have pre-printed all shipping labels between yesterday and today due to limited capacity in processing everything right after the Thanksgiving holiday, however all packages will leave our Florida location on Friday, November 28th which is the Official Release Date for the Westone 3 so please take that in account when calculating the transit time for your shipping method:

OVERNIGHT: Monday delivery
2 DAY: Tuesday delivery
RUSH: Around next Wednesday
FREE: Around next Thursday / Friday

International Mail: 5-25 days (depends on customs, etc.)
FedEx: Delivery around next Thursday.

We feel very confident you will enjoy your new Westone 3 as much as we do and wish you and your family Happy Holidays.

Thank you so much for your support!"

Well, some of the Westone 3 packages that were already labeled got mixed up with our daily shipments and went out Wednesday and we apologize for the mistake.

While every one was enjoying their Thanksgiving with their families and most of every one else (including dealers) did not work Thursday and Friday, we started working on Tuesday to make sure all orders would go out on Friday. We worked Tuesday, Wednesday, part of Thursday (we had a very short Thanksgiving lunch on account of this) and Friday until 9:00PM (only stopping for lunch at 5:00PM).

We had a very large allocation and had to fulfill many times more of what our daily normal capacity is.

In the process of trying hard to make all orders out on Friday, some of them slipped through and got picked up by the carrier on Wednesday.

At the end of Friday there were no orders left to be processed and shipped, except for those with expired credit cards that did not respond to our email requests.

There were no favoritism and no intention of wrongdoing. ALL our customers are special to us.

Thanks again for your support, sorry for any inconvenience AND ENJOY THE NEW WESTONE 3!

Give me a couple of hours and I'll compare them directly, but from memory it's a differnt kind of bass in the mids too. Very clean and with good punch no flab not as diffuse and either the SE 530 or TF10. I'm no bass head by far, but I could actually feel the bass on some pieces vibrating in my chest and that has never happened before. As to the ESW 9, mine are from a later run than a lot of people and have a very expended treble which can be a bit intense at times. These are not piercing like that and may not be as extended as some. This is from memory, I will directly compare them later on.

WHY CAN'T WE JUST ASK THE OP TO RENAME THIS THREAD - "WESTONE 3 IMPRESSIONS AND APPRECIATION THREAD". Then we don't have to have a 3rd big Westone thread...

When I had the Triple.fi 10 Pro, the main thing I hated about the sound was the Triple's midbass had a boxy acoustic suspension sound, where you felt like you were listening to a small bookshelf speaker trying to do big bass. The second thing I hated was the fit.

The thing I loved about the SE530 was the rich mids and powerful bass, but with black foam tips I was losing some highs, and with silicone tips I was losing bass in exchange for a plasticky sounding treble. The Westone UM-56 tips helped a lot, and convinced me to move the SE530 into a custom acrylic shell for a better frequency response (success but a one of a kind not to be repeated custom, after a 4 month effort).

The Westone 3 have NONE of those problems, and have a true and natural transparent sound regardless of the tips, although the treble suffers a little with foam tips it is still better than the SE530 treble with foam tips and yet never has the boxy sound in the midbass like my Triple.fi did - and with the silicone tips the treble is never plasticky sounding like with the SE530. The UM-56 custom tips are again the best of all.

The Westone 3 bass is quite powerful, but never overwhelming and doesn't intrude into the mids like the Klipsch X10 sometimes would do (only bugged me with some pianos or female vocalsw but not all). I am really trying to get my W3 review done, but I feel bad if I don't jump in and answer questions as they come up...

First comparo is with the UM 2. The 3 has far superior bass, it adds a solid and deep underpinning that the 2 doesn't have, and is extremely noticeable, although without having heard the depth of the 3 I wouldn't have noticed the absence of this level of musical foundation. The soundstage is wider and deeper and larger on the 3 and the instruments and singer seem closer up, maybe a 15 or 20% difference in perceived size and closeness. The vocals seem smoother, I could hear a slight rasp with the 2 that the 3 does not give you. The sound is just a lot bigger. Also the decay and reverb in the music is very much more noticeable as are very low level background details.

Thanks to reading this thread, I ended up shelling out several hundred dollars several minutes ago (prior to finding this thread just today, I had no clue Westone 3 existed). Now, I am impatiently waiting for my Westone 3's to arrive in my hands.

Welcome Hooran. You are a rare species on Head-Fi...someone who joined and made what could be his last IEM purchase prior to a first post. Just think of all the buying and selling/returning you avoided. If I could ask, what phones are you using now? Player?
