Yourself and others keep talking about the Tf10s being better than the W3. I myself am trying to decide if I should get the IE8, especially as I can buy it for almost half the price of the Westone. As they say, ignorance is bliss although knowledge can lead to insanity.

Go for IE8 since most BA iem sound the same. Moreover, in Oz, u can get IE8 for cheap via minidisc.

Quite big. W3 has better bass and treble extension than the UM2, and flatter response overall.

I prefer my TF10's sound over all genres that I've listened to so far this weekend. Blah blah blah it is only my opinion, of course.

Those of you who are so happy with the W3s treble extension and clarity simply haven't listed to a pair of TF10s for an extended period of time.

Put it this way - if I hadn't had a pair of TF10s, I would be perfectly happy with a set of W3s. I'd be ignorant, but I'd be in bliss

I had the triples long enough to know that they suck IMO the treble goes high yes. but it is far from clear IMO. piercing and fatiguing is what I would call it. but of course thats just my opinion. lets not even talk about all the other problems with them. whats good for some is not always for others I guess. I couldnt wait to get rid of them; and then they fell apart

Hehe ok - fair enough. I actually find the W3 treble quite fatiguing whereas the TF10 is smooth and jolly!

I'm still experimenting - but so far everything but the tri-flanges are pretty much unusable for me due to sibilance.

only large (standard) comply foams worked for me.. no noticeable sibilance with those..
tri flange do work well but i cut the only pair i had in a wrong way and ended up making them too short.. so next time I'm gonna cut them in the right way....
if you make tri flange too short, you will experience sibilance (given that you experience sibilance with other short tips)
So, non-modded (or only 2-3mm cut) tri-flange and Large complies "should" work.. (these work for me!)
shure olives (all sizes) and silicone tips didn't work for me.. as were too fatiguing to my ears because of shrillness.. (same problem that i think you're experiencing with W3's..)

I see alot of triflange users saying they cut to short etc. Try the link below for a great price on tri flange tips, with very reasonable shipping in U.S. I bought the 10 pr for $11, shipping was $3ish I believe...had them in a few days. Quality is same as those that came with westone...don't feel different in diameter either. No I have no stock in the earplug store.

Did you get the long stem, for experimentation? I have 2-3 sets of tri-flanges around, so I don't need them yet.

After a day of playing around with the triple-flange tips (I've not modded them yet) I've actually got a decent sound out of the W3s. Sibilance is no longer an issue for me (and that was the deal-breaker with any of the other tips), and the treble sounds much less plasticky - high hats especially now sound much better and less harsh. The sound is now much more like I expected the W3s to sound like - similar to my TF10s but with less emphasis on the treble and more on the bass.

My opinion has been swayed a little by the triple-flange tips, but I have not yet made up my mind as to which pair I keep.

Which way did you tweak; is longer stem more sibilant or is shorter stem more sibilant?

I have a "complaint" (lol) to register with Westone / p0wderh0und:

The W3's are so darn engaging, that for the past 3-4 nights, they've kept me up past 2am: enjoying the liveness, the impact, the balance, and the detail they provide.

The [holistic] sonic image that all the techie stuff adds up to, is other-worldly.

There's just something about the "whole picture" that keeps me from:
a. putting them down
b. reaching for any other cans

Is there a remedy for this fundamental issue?
(guess I could go out & buy some toothpicks - for my eyelids!)

I've only cut the smallest flange off, I haven't touched the stem.

In doing so however the sibilance came right back. I've got another pair of un-modded tri-flanges here so i can compare with and it's uncanny.

Unfortunately I've now basically exhausted all the posibilities. I can't find a single tip that works well (non-sibilant) for me.

The W3s are going back! Long live the TF10s

Will get a pair of IE8s in the new year...
