Needing a new Integrated Amplifier - Page 2

BTW:

Sorry for the double post, but the Cambridge DOES have a preamp for RCA subwoofer inputs. The Pioneer would require the doubling up on cables.

EDIT:

link to cambridge manual. It shows how to hook up to their preamp outs. Pretty basic.

I have an Adcom GFA-535 MKII. Its a very nice power amp. As a matter of fact, it sounds much better than my Trends Audio TA-10.1. I know the T-amps get much love, but this thing kills it hands down, offering superb imaging, detail, and soundstage. The GFA-535II usually goes for $150 to $300 on eBay. You would need a preamp for it.

You can get a speaker level to line out converter like this one:

Russound ADP-1.2 Speaker-level to Line-level Adapter at Crutchfield.com

But I would look at one of the RCA jacks you are showing in the pic of the Pioneer. From what I can gather, the "line/surround back" jacks between the CD and Tape 1 jacks looks to be a line out. If this is the case, it very well may be a variable pre-out.

i highly recommend trying to find a Panasonic Class D receiver, either the XR55 or XR57... i set my father-in-law up with one, and it gives absolutely phenomenal, crystal clear sound for the money.

I'm pretty sure it would. I haven't had experience with both to tell you, but the Cambridge seems to be excellent all around.

I thought so too, but looked it up in the manual. It's just another input unfortunately.

to the OP, I am going through this exact same decision now. after spending way too much time trying to read reviews, manuals, and talk to hi-fi stores, I convinced myself that the Cambridge 540A V2 is a good solution. It gets rave reviews as being the best integrated amp for that budget, it has preamp outputs that you can hook up directly to the sub (as others have pointed out), and it supposedly has a decent and separate headphone amp circuit. I am slowly building my desktop system, and I will be buying the 540A to drive some Role Audio Kayak speakers that I just purchased. Right now those speakers are being under-utilized as replacements for my crappy desktop satellite speakers. I can't wait to drive them properly and to buy a decent sub.
