I've just found out myself that battery life isn't that great as I played my Sony S639F for about an hour today while fiddling with EQ and its taken two bars off the battery...NOT GOOD The battery is now half full.

I wonder if the reason this is happening is because I have the VPT surround on, Clear Stereo on and DSEE Enhancer all on.

I feel like crying

Hmmm...Admittedly, thats a little alarming, but I sometimes encounter such with my A829 and it often accomodates for any little erraticacies by lasting longer on another bar of battery life or on no bars. I havn't consciously analysed how long my battery life is with A829, but, as an estimate I'd give it at least 15 hours. Running EQ and/or sound effects as well as keeping the screen light on/keeping the screen active will behave as a drain on battery though.

If you are listening to high bitrate files then there is little point in using DSEE post processing. Also if you are not using the bundled Sony EX082 headphones, you may as well turn off Clear Stereo as the technology is designed specifically for those phones.

On the A818 I only have the EQ on and get around 25 hours per charge playing -V 0 files.

I use the bundled EX082 earphones with my Sony S639F. Maybe its the fact that I am always fiddling with the EQ and VPT surround presets while listening to the player that is draining the battery prematurely. The battery life on my Cowon D2 was great.

@Bloodsugar00....Report back about your impressions of the VPT surround mode when you get your Sony. It would be interesting to find out if you hear stereo widening.

No problem. I'll feedback with my findings on that one.
