True that! So what I the Hp u have that gets the most head time!

Depends on my wife's schedule actually but probably the HD800.

I see that elwappo likes orthos after seeing his profile though which explains a lot. Those need very powerful amps to sound decent for sure and scale up quite a bit more than almost any dynamic hp.  I personally don't love the sound of them even with powerful amps although the LCD 2.2 and 3 were okay.  Didn't like the HE6 really, only heard one and it sounded flat to me, maybe needed more power.  So there you go....

Hey I was wondering the bass quantity of these vs the Denon D5000s in midbass and subbass thx in advance. And if any of you were to be able to enlighten me with comparisons to any headphones except the Signature DJ because its not available in my country. Maybe vs the W3000ANV, D5000, D7100 or W1000x Grandiso. Thanks again for any help given!

A bit late to the party, but  I have both the Ed8 and the W3000ANV as it so happens. Bass-wise they are similar in that it doesn't extend very deep (as a previous poster already mentioned) However, for about 90% of my music the bass doesn't extend that far, and both deliver plenty enough in those circumstances. A friend tried the W3000 and was a bit surprised at the amount of it on the tracks he tried after reading how little it was supposed to have. I'd say the Ed8 has a little more of a bass bump before dropping off at the lower frequencies. But I would not use the bass as a factor in deciding between these headphones...

Otherwise, the mids are great on the W3000, and good on the Ed8. The treble is well-controlled on the W3000, but a bit harsh and excessive on the Ed8, more so with certain tracks/genres. This is my biggest gripe with the Ed8, esp when paired with the dac/amp I bought it for. (And forget about that S-Logic stuff, the soundstage is no different than on any other quality headphone) However, generally, I want to point out that the Ed8 and the W3000 are very different headphones overall, I would not put them on the same list if I was looking for a headphone...

The limited-edition W3000 is bound to be more expensive nowadays then the Ed8s which can be had under a grand (which is already a bit of a stretch in light of the overall sound quality, I definitely would never pay the ~$1700 asking price for the various special editions)

The W3000 is large, a bit showy, with a long cord and a fullsize plug, almost open (forget about being "closed") while the Ed8 is fairly compact, and very well isolating with cups that are just large enough (the Senn Momentum for instance turned out to be on-ear for me...) and a relatively short cord with a small plug for portable use (and optional extension/ fullsize plug)

Most importantly the W3000 has a fairly subdued character, with emphasis on the mids, while the Ed8 has more aggressive sound profile. So it depends on your preference really. I'm firmly in the camp of the W3000 but it's too special and open to use/leave at work (like the LCD3s, Th900 etc.), but the Ed8 is easily replaceable and very well sealed so for now the best compromise to me under those circumstances. But at home... I'd pick any of the other ones in a heartbeat.

SQ: W3000>ED8
Practicality: ED8>W3000

Hmmm.... I don't give a crap abt practicality or usabilty this is my home cans, but if i can
bring them out its a def plus but it doesnt matter much. The ed8 imo looks stunning though.
In my country the w3000 is cheaper than the ed8 ( depending on the disct. the store giv) can be
5 percent disct. or 15-20 percent. The W3k is basically cheaper so if it sounds better
it seems i got myself a winner. But the 3d wing thing seems to worry me as i read tons of complaints
but some good comments too. Btw, have you heard the old dxxx denon series, wonder what are the diff.

For me, some of the same as above, but the reason I use the Ed8's a lot is that it has a top tier sound in a portable that i can also use easily around the house, ie. leaning back in a high backed chair or in bed against a pillow due to the cup profile.  So it ends up getting more time because it has such ease of use in all situations.  My W3000anv is kept in a pelican case and used exclusively on my home amp and very carefully.  It feels expensive and a bit fragile or easily scratched due to the beautiful shiny cups.  It also hangs on your head so you don't want to be moving around too much.  I really exclusively use them when the house is noisy or i am trying not to make noise for others.  So they do not get as much time as they may deserve.  If i can do an open headphone, i do the HD800's and on occasion the W3000anv.  If i need closed i do the W3000anv or the Ed8, depending on what i am doing and what amp i am using.  If in bedroom or reading Ed8 and if walking the dog or out and about either the Ed8 or go light with the ES10 or esw9.  Otherwise i occasionally break out the DX1000 depending on music or if i want softer, gentler enveloping sound i will even do the HD650's lately because they just match so well with the Zana Deux amp it is sick.  It almost brings them up to the others on that amp only, which is amazing.

Edit-saw above after i posted and that sounds right.  I thought the same at one time but at this point practicality is pretty nice to have.  They are both top tier in their sq but to me the W3000anv has more of the sound of a closed HD800 as others have said.  It is open sounding and very clear, the Ed8 is more......warm maybe and soft sounding, not as stark.  I don't get the treble sound from them as I read above.  They are really high end sounding to me and just an incredible portable that can double as a home phone.  W3000anv is one of the best closed i have ever heard though, maybe the best.  Gotta say though that Fostex TH900 is darn good too.

Hmmm.... My local store is great so i can do this: ed8 vs w3k vs es10. But
just wanted to know what to expect. So the w3k overall sounds better than
the ed8? Have you heard the old denon dxxx series? If yes, can you gimme
some comparisons? Thx in advance

See edit from above, posted it before your post came up.  No dxxx never paid attn to them, only the Fostex.

The es10 doesn't compare to these though.  It is more portable than the Ed8 which is nice on the go but not as detailed and refined sound, also a little flubby bass.

So the Edition 8 is a great sounding can but not AS GREAT AS the W3000ANV,
but the Edition 8 wins the W3000ANV by a huge margin in practicality. Well, as I
said in one my earlier posts, i am gunning for sq and the ed8 cost like arnd 500 usd
more than the w3000anv. Enough for me to get a sr-71a to make it sound even better!
Yeah but for its function, a portable can, i think its without doubt "BEST IN CLASS". Right?
Hmm.... Well, i will still audition both of them juz in case for dunno what reason the editon 8
just well win my heart. Any view on the LCD-2 or Ath W1000x Grandiso?

Just checking back in. Had the original ESW9, nice for what they are but as written above, the ESWs aren't even in the same league as the Ed8/3000ANV.

Sorry, never got to listen to the older Denon series. Have the TH900 though, definitely better than the Ed8 in my book. Compared to the W3000, much more difficult IMHO, they both have their own qualities & deficiencies... I didn't like the TH900 much at first (troublesome treble, but still better in that respect than the Ed8) but it grew on me. Better bass though than either Ed8 or W3000, not just more but nicely controlled too. Depending on availability and your patience, maybe the new TH600 might be another consideration if the TH900 is a bit too much?

W3000 fit: you can bend it A LOT. It took a while since I tried to be careful, but it now sits both comfortably & firmly on my noggin. Frankly, if you can get the W3000 cheaper than the Ed8s, it's a steal... Here in the US, the regular Ed8 can be easily found and is definitely cheaper than the W3000, if you can find it at all. And limited edition means limited, you might not get an affordable chance in the future, and who knows if/when Audio Technica will release their next flagship and if it will be better still... Funny, I mentioned it to have a subdued character, and just stopping by its page on Amazon, saw that somebody gave it a bad rating because "nothing stands out"... shows it really depends on what one looks for in a headphone.

Since you say you'll get a listen at your local store: that's really all that matters: your own ears, as nice as chatting about them in this forum is.

P.S.: Don't have the LCD-2, but the LCD-3. From what I understand, the LCD-2 is very close in sound signature to the LCD-3 and, well, the LCD-3 is my favourite headphone bare none. And if you like bass, the LCDs deliver, not excessive but definitely deep. However, I once again would consider them in a different category: big, heavy, requiring some pretty solid amplification to deliver, and no isolation at all (only an extremely thin membrane and some felt between your ears and the outside). Definitely home 'phones only.

I just ask around for the sake of chatting and recreational purposes and also to get an idea of how it would sound before my actual audition but of course the audition is the most important part. Thanks for your help, i gotta say everyone here is very helpful!

Did you ever consider the ULTRASONE Signature line? Have the PRO and the DJ is icoming. They both represent a different sound signature with very good controlled bass and no ear annoying tendence to sibilant treble.

Yes and you probably find those folks who went for the Signature line in the Pro thread and the DJ thread. I sold my Ed8LE with plan to go to SigPros but now have SigDJs instead.
