I wish! Just got a good deal on everything, but still spent far too much money on this hobby this month

digitalmind: Last time I stayed in the Sheraton Suites on the Hudson. Good hotel in NJ with free ferry tickets and a very nice view on the city. Not sure how much it is around Christmas. Another hotel which is in NYC that was recommended to me is The Pod Hotel.

Sorry for so much OT talk, think I just cannot wait to get there myself again

Indra: (btw. one of my favourite songs from Thievery Corporation ) hope your BF is getting better soon!

Thanks for the recommendation! Unfortunatly, we'll not be able to afford it. We're on a serious budget both being students, me being 21 and my girlfriend 19. Paid for the plane tickets using airmiles. We're stuck to something a few miles out of the city, but we'll have plenty of fun.

In that case try Priceline or Hotwire! And good luck bidding!

I am very sure you'll have fun and won't forget your time in NYC! But I am sure I am not the first one saying that

Please do not be sorry, I will never be cross for buying cheaper elsewhere, BUT at least have the courtesy not to (ab-)use my place as where to listen and determine if you like the stuff, but then to buy somewhere else. That is not done! Its that simple.

It is also one of the reasons I only try to sell stuff that have a firm price policy. Unfortunately the phonitor is a must have in this regards, but I am building pressure to get the prices the same all around. As we have succeeded before with prices in the US. Never forget that it is due to profit that businesses can survive, make nic products and deliver service. This is often forgotten when people "rave the internet" for the cheapest price.

Sorry for spilling my guts! Had a bad day today.

We all have bad days, no doubt. Surely, I can consider myself having one right now due to a variety of reasons, being sick just being one of them.

I have to agree on pricewatchers being annoying sometimes, and I don't plan on bothering about 10% or less differences in prices if I can get it at another place I like more. To me, a store's identity is quite important, the presentation and the devotion is a little more important than the comparative pricing.

Hans,
When I was at your place you told me you didn't know if you wanted to be a dealer for this amp, you just had it because you liked it and to use as a reference for yourself. On my asking what it would cost if you were going to sell it you just said "I don't know exactly, about 1700 something euro".
So I took the liberty to look elsewhere.
Sorry if that annoyed you.

Thank you. I'll be fine I guess. I just hate/fear needles arggghhh

Not knowing what exactly transpired between the two of you I am very familiar with Hans his sentiments.
It's a constant struggle when you're a small specialist shop and people use you for your knowledge and go somewhere else to bring their money. If the trend keeps going like this specialist shops where you can ask things and get service will have been wiped out.
I recently had to say goodbye to my local cd shop. He couldn't manage anymore because of internet competition. I can tell you it was a sad day.

Anyway Hans, hope you'll have a better day tomorrow

Probably a big misunderstanding then, since I am an official SPL Phonitor dealer since June. And basically the wrong is nor with you nor with me but with SPL for not keeping the price levelled. Rgds Hans.

Which speaker project? The JLows (the huge ones) or the Oris horns? I played with the JLows for almost as long as 6 months, and never got around to the Oris's.
I got rid of both projects in favor of a new one; Tannoy 10" Super Red monitors which are still in their original cabinets. Will eventually throw them in a bigger closed cabinet.
While I regret getting rid of the JLows (they were truly great with the Jordan JX92s drivers), these speakers are a step up and a substantial upgrade.

And thanks! I am indeed. Still have to find a hotel and arrange it all, but the tickets are right beside me.

Beterschap ook van mijn kant!

SEXY!

Please tell me you're keeping your Tannoys!

There's a pair of 15" Gold's on Marktplaats. If only I could afford them.

December 20th would be possible for me but I think it's too quickly for most. Won't be as much fun if people miss out.
If this is directed to me: no I won't sell my Tannoys. Unless I'm in shortage of food.
If this is directed to Rik: once you experienced old school Tannoy dual concentrics (don't need to be vintage) you won't ever get away from it. He might sell them, but only to get 12 or 15".

Thanks Indra, don't worry! I will survive (Gloria Gaynor wasn't it?)
Also (as said earlier) the problem is basically not with/between kees or me but the fact that it sells for 1440 or so in Germany. That should be prevented or I should be able to sell against the same price. Its actually very simple .

Had a bad message yesterday. Only 36 years old, passed away due to a very nasty disease. leaves two small kids and man behind. Life sucks sometimes.

Rgds

Hello everyone, Yeah small specialized shops, its difficult now with the internet and all I still have a local computer store here (which is strange because I live in a rather small town). Lucky for me htough because I do not like getting my pc from an online retailer. I wonder how long it will last though because the plain and simple fact is that they ARE indeed more costly then buying from the internet AND it takes logner for stuff to arrive there because they have no big stock.
This is of course wholly off topic...

Hello, Ok to get back to the 'pre-party' beginning of January would be cool, although I will be going to Zeeland between christmas and new year, I guess we will be back by the 2nd of januari though, depending on what day that is this year since I am going with my parents and my father has to work... 6th of januari is my birth day but this is no big deal because I dont do much with it anyway so this is no limitation for me.
Since most people seem to be able to do it in the beginning of januari, the next question is where?
I am afraid my house is not suitable since I dont really live in a central location, my house is rather small, full of dog hairs AND my parents would probbably have a fit (i live next to them which is nice at times and not so nice at other times lol).
I am willing to help pay for whatever is needed though...

Hmm, I hope you're able to come to an agreement which works out in your advantage then. I am looking forward hearing it again and comparing it to my home amp. All the comments I read so far are so very promising

Ouch, that is a bad message indeed. My sincere condolences to you and the family in question. At times, life surely does suck.

About that pre-party-date...I am still not very sure but I guess the 18th of January would suit me the best, I think. My mom has her birthday the 11th so I have to be there. I am not sure how other people would feel about that though...
As to where to keep the party; my place is fine although it's not exactly at a central position (and listening to Rik's speakers would become fairly impossible hinthint )but I surely wouldn't mind as long as the stuff works out fine here.

Hello everyone, Maastricht would be very good for me because I have a direct bus connection to it, of course it depends on what everyone wants. 18th would be fine too, but not sure how everyone else thinks about it.
Needles suck btw.
