I just got a pair of LA7000 (recabled, modded and improved wood cups) right as I was packing up all my gear for the big Colorado Head-Fi meet (starts in about 8 hours so I am off to bed).

I only had 5 minutes to listen to them on my new ZDT amp, but they sound MUCH better than I recall the MD5000DE sounding. I didn't get hit by the "cupped hands" mids or any sense of them being a closed can like sometime you get with other closed cans. but I did think the mids were much richer and engaging. I don't know if this was due to the amp upgrade or that they are just better cans. I will get to listen more at the meet and during the week after the meet and will post a link to my impressions thread when I post it later.

Looking forward to your impressions because Im trying to decide if I want to mod my d7000 or save the money and do it sometime after getting a new amp. Be curious of a side to side comparison of the stock verses the modded at your meet.

No problem, did you see the LA700 review as well?  I still really like my LA7000.  I use them as my primary closed can in my bedroom when my wife is asleep, if I'm not in the mood for IEM.
