Ipod family quality ranking; price independent

I know that the first shuffle was considerd a really nice unit. Something to do with push-pull circuitry. Do any other ipods have this design? Is there a list somewhere that ranks all of the ipods and iphones by audio quality? For what its worth; between my self and the family we have an ipod nano 1G; original shuffle; Video ipod 5.5 with 80gb hard drive, ipod touch 1g, and an iphone 3g.

Any thoughts on how those rank in terms of audio quality?

By the way, I know that other brands have their fans in terms of audio quality (my favorite unit is my antiquated Intel); but I have given in to itunes which locks me into ipods for the most part.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Just so you know, plenty of other, better players support iTunes and Apple audio codecs (like Apple lossless).
