Total Noob question

I'm completely new to the world of high end audio. After lurking around these forums for a year, I have a basic idea of how things work and how Bose is a ****ty price proposition. Now I'm a freshman in college with limited resources and I wanted to build an in dorm setup because I'm primarily tired of our next doors blasting music on their ****ty boombox. I wanted to use my macbook as primary with an Ibasso D2/Zero as an amp and Behringer MS40's as the speakers but since I don't have a sound card I can't attach a subwoofer. Now newegg has Polk audio monitor 50 c for $ 99. Now I wanted really powerful speakers to blow the f'ing roof off. Is this a good deal and if I do need to buy a proper reciever/amp to hookup all speakers and subwoofers, what is the cheapest I can find without compromising audio quality? Could anyone suggest systems with a MacBook/iPod as primaries.
Thanks guys and I hope you understand I'm new at this

do you want a receiver or just a amp to power the speakers?

I think that's an awesome suggestion but is it possible to go a little cheaper? I'll try to get the amp but can I get cheaper speakers, which perform nicely for their price point? Also is it good to wait around for Black Friday for speaker deals in B&M stores and online.
Also any good amps with optical out?

Be sure to check out Audiogon AudiogoN high end audio auctions, classifieds, hifi chat. It's an online community for audiophiles with a massive classified section (complete with feedback scoring, etc). Great deals to be had if you don't mind buying used.

$10 is not much of a risk. The biggest prpblem with these old amps/receivers is noisy controls (noisy pots) . You could ask the seller or try them yourself. Basically as you adjust the volume/balance/tone/input selector controls you should not hear any extraneous noise (crackling/hissing/drop-outs). You can often fix these problems cheaply with contact cleaner but a can of contact cleaner will double the cost of the amp plus there is the effort of taking it apart.

Definitely worth a risk though, I had a old Marantz (1973) and it worked very well indeed, my work amp is an old Nikko and it works perfectly

Go used and vintage. Skip the stores and go straight to Craigslist, thrift stores, junk shops, garage sales, etc. Find a powerful old two channel receiver for a few bucks and use that. Same with speakers, but you'll have better luck with Craigslist and Audiogon.

As a side note, are you sure you want to crank it up? Not good for your ears and there will be a noise complaint sooner or later. Personally, I'd ask the neighbor to knock it off, then make a noise complaint if that doesn't work. You'd be happier with a system that emphasizes fidelity.
