SEE PROS & CONS. NOTE: The clamping factor will obviously differ from person to person, but I'm surprised to find little mention of it, as it is the sole reason I'd never think twice about...

When I listened to the sound for the 1st time, I was hit by it. I was punched by the not-punchy-bass. I was hoping it would offer much better bass response than SE315.. equals to Klipsch Image...

Well, if I one whom you were responding to, I object. First I listen to a lot of Indie and metal. There is no reason the two can't coincide, and that I can't hold that opinion. Second, I typed "popular music", which I most definitely consider metal. Third, the thread is titled "best record of the year," and Davey mentioned no specific genre. Thus, one can mention metal, electronic, jazz or whichever genre of music that they listen to.
No. I wasn't responding to you. I wasn't even aware the bands you mentioned were metal. (and I will check them out when I come across them)
Metal popular? You must be joking. I don't think the devil growls, woe betide me attitude, and general inaccessibility of metal will ever gain it a mass audience- it's just too far out there.
Incidentally, I bought 2 Mastodon albums today. Metalheads tell me this band is not "real" metal.
Since as you say no specific genre was mentioned ( although I'm sure Davey was targetting fellow Deerhunter fans, rather than fans of any album released in 2008) I'm going to say how much I'm enjoying Lil Wayne's Tha Carter (and the bonus disc, Tha Leak) since i got it a few weeks ago.
Looking forward to the the new Deerhunter album.

Only one artist I mentioned was metal.

I'm not joking Did you read the link I gave you? Popular music is a common description for a wide variety of genre's. If you don't want to accept that, then consider that one can buy metal at large retail outlets, and it can claim many platinum selling artists worldwide. Strictly sales wise, are you sure? What do you consider "mainstream indie." The other comment is a silly generalization. Not all metal, make that a lot of metal doesn't have death growls or a "wo betide me attitude." I'm sure some metal fans have similar blithe comments for Indie rock, which would be just as ignorant.
I agree about the last point and myself will no longer bring metal up here, independent of your reply. That's open game!
