2) I'd say around $40-50.

There's no such thing as 'audiophile' level tbh.

$30 for a $40 earbud isn't that much of a bargain though. And, certainly mp3 player stock earbuds aren't audiophile either? Do you have a PL 30? If so, how do they compare to your other earbuds? Thanks

I have reviewed and compared PL-30 with other IEM. In case you haven't read my thread about it, it is in my signature (the first link).

I already read your thread. It was helpful, but now I need some subjective comparison and I need your help. How did the Sony MDR-EX85s compare to the Pl 30s in terms of sound quality? Was there a significant difference? Thanks

I don't really know what else to say beside those I already said in the review. IMO, PL-30 is slightly better than EX85.However, you should note that their sound signature is very different from each other and because of that you might favor EX85 over PL-30.

In my view, the PL30 is not really any better than the EX082. Mod the latter by removing the screen in the sound tube, for starters. That can open them up a bit. Also, switch to T400 Comply foamies for the 082s. They are expensive for sleeves, but a major improvement over the silicone. I gave my PL30s away to a friend.

How do you remove the screen in the sound tube in the ex082? Thanks

Oh, then there is no need for me to buy PL30s because since both earbuds are about the same level of SQ because Sony ex085s are on ebay $16 plus ship. What earbuds below $50 are the best in SQ? thanks

In case you don't know, EX082 (and most of the Sony, Sennheiser and Creative canalphone) on eBay is probably fake.

Anyway, here were my initial impressions of the PL-30.

Anyway, I'll be doing a big review of sub and ~$100 earphones beginning tomorrow and spanning several days so watch out for that. I'll be running all of them through an amp (my desktop one) to really see how much potential each earphone has and of course unamped via DAP. Got a nice audio testing playlist of 16 songs that span genres and recording quality.
Yes, finally getting around to that comparative review.
After that I'll be selling alot of them off locally to gamers as I what them, part of non-audiophile Joe Public, to experience decent sound at a great price (and to milk them off crap IEM's/earphones).

X2. In the OP's case, I believe he got his 082s with his Sony DAP, but those really cheap prices for the Sony/Senn/Creative phones are definitely for knock-offs.
