PRECISION +/-1PPM 12MHz TCXO! - eBay (item 120271812781 end time Dec-08-08 07:38:00 PST)

I guess we need that. Does anyone know if this will solder right into place?

Unfortunitly I have no idea. I use to use the free webspace that my isp gave me to do it but I've switched a few times and now have no idea how to get to whatever freebie space that I'm allowed.

Phill. thanks for posting the picture. It's interesting that the power supply section is a bit different. My computer seems okay so far today on this site. Shrug.

You have Philips output caps. Which values?

I'll have to take a look tommorow at the output caps, I just closed it up and put it back in the system to burn for a while. At least I don't see any Hongson or whatever caps they were. Interesting that the latest dacs will ahve only 3 power supply caps. Which clock are you going for?

You no, I'm glad to have a new dac which I have to thank Kevin for getting it out so fast, but man I can't keep up with his changes. When he E-Mailed me he said he was sending out the latest version, well I guess it was on that day, it's kind of hard to post impressions when they are all a little different but the truth be known there's probably very little difference. Everything I heard with my first dac means nothing, it could have been busted after a few hours of use. My new dac does not seem to get quite as stove hot as the first.

BTW Defec, the one picture you posted showing some new parts soldered on the bottom of the board are there in my new dac.

@tubes
so is the new DAC sound absolutely different from the early one you get?

I can't really comment on that, I learned from the first dac that it goes through a lot of changes so I expect the same from this dac, I'll update as burns in.

Did you check the values of these output caps?

I've been reading all this and I'm impressed. I must say that I would like to try the Valab and I have a lot of expectations from you guys to make it better. Currently I have a cheap USB receiver from which I extracted I2S to feed an Arcam Delta Black Box TDA1541A fitted with blackgates all around (I had a good offer back then). The BB sounds terrible on the coax input but I'm loving it now. Even so I want to try this DAC and even if I don't like it I could use it as a USB transport but I have high hopes.
All who try blackgates be advised that yes they need to be breaked in again after they're not used for a long time and at first you don't get too much bass from them. Even after breaking in they have a tight bass which could be defined as a less bass by others but I like the details, mids and highs of the blackgates. Having less boomed bass makes room for air around intruments, it's a matter of taste in the end.
