I just received an iBasso D3 and placed 5 brand new duracell AAA and when I turned it on using the knob nothing happened. At first I thought it needed headphones plugged in for the power light to turn on but that didn't work. I then connected my iPod Touch using mini to mini cable to the input jack and nothing but silence. The red power light would not come on. I then plugged it into my laptop and the blue usb light came on and the drivers installed. But still no music. I was getting really pissed that they sent me a non-functioning unit and thought about the hassle of doing an overseas return.

At this point I knew the DAC portion was working, but the line input was not. I left it lugged into the laptop and ran to the store to buy another set of batteries, just in case. When I came home 20 minutes later, I tried turning on the power and it finally started to work. Anyone else have this problem?

I don't really see how this is funny. I'd be pretty upset if I was excited about getting something new and it was broken.

Well I hope it all works out for you. I plan on buying this unit myself, and I hope I don't have any issues. When you say "overseas return," where do you live and where was this unit shipped from?

I live in New Jersey and the item ships from Shenzhen China which is where Little Dots are shipped from (I just got LD MKIII a couple days ago).

I see on their site that the unit is $219. Does that include shipping? If it's an extra $40 to ship this thing, that's pushing it. I don't think I'll get it then.

One of the batterry contact springs is overcompressed and making intermittant contact. You need find which one and stretch it without tearing off the spring.

It was another $22 for shipping. The money wouldn't have killed me, but the hassle of dealing with companies in 12+ hour time zone differences and arguing about who should cover the return shipping, etc. I'm just glad its fixed.

It's been burning-in for about 9 hours now and sounds pretty good running off my laptop driving a pair of V-moda Vibes which are for my ipod Touch 2nd Gen. My Grado 325i's should be here this weekend. The D3 sounded awesome with the line out going to the Little Dot MkIII which has about 20+ hours of burn-in. As you can tell, I just started my headphone addiction and it's almost complete.

HeadphoneAddict - I though about doing that, but the springs seemed pretty firm when I was tightening the thumbscrews on the back.

I thought the same thing when it happened to me, but indeed one of the internal springs was 2 mm too short.

I’m afraid that there is nothing to argue about....
On iBasso site (FAQ) you can read:

"Return Policy
Our products have a 1-year warranty and a 14-day, no-questions asked return policy of the full product price when purchased through our website. Please note that shipping costs are non-refundable. If you are in need of a product return, please e-mail us for the product return form."

and I have to return my new D3 for exchange, cause it was broken.

wow there's been quite a few problems with the D3 lately hasn't there? that and their position on return shipping has really turned me off. shipping a dodgy product and penalizing the customer for it is bad form. what they could do is get you to cover the shipping and when it was deemed to be a manufacturing defect they could refund you the shipping. that way they're covered and so are you. just my 02c

I'm going to send an email to iBasso stating all of our concerns. They need to change their return policy after some of these faulty units we've been hearing about. Here is the text of the email, and I will let you know what they say:

"There have been a few reports on head-fi.org that some of the D3 units have been faulty, requiring an exchange. I understand that your return policy says shipping costs must be covered by the buyer. However, in the instance where a unit is faulty, I do not think that the buyer should have to cover the cost of shipping. This is what is keeping me from buying one of your D3 units. If I receive a unit that is defective, I don't expect to have to pay shipping to have it returned, especially when shipping costs $22."
